After its establishment, Bau Bang district has focused on developing commercial – service sector, especially in rural areas. At the present, the district has many markets, the number of traders has increased, contributing to meeting the demands of local people.
Promoting advantages of rural markets
Recently, trade – service sector in Lai Uyen commune, Bau Bang district has experienced strong growth, accounting for 28% economic structure of the commune. In addition to developing agricultural services, like: providing fertilizers, plant protection products, procuring rubber latex..., trading activities at Lai Uyen market has been increasingly crowded.
Nguyen Minh Trang, Vice Chairman of Lai Uyen commune People’s Committee said, currently, traditional markets were still the main distributor of producers and consumers and kept producer and consumer in local socio-economic development. Lai Uyen market was established in 1976 and has facilitated commercial activities not only at the locality but also with surrounding areas.
Lai Uyen market will be rebuilt to promote local trade – service development
Ms. Them, a trader in Lai Uyen market, said, during 20 years, the market were upgraded many times to sell many types of good, meet local people’s needs. Purchasing power at the market on big holidays is usually very high, sometimes there are not enough goods to sell.
Currently, the district has 8 markets including 2 markets in Lai Uyen commune. In order to facilitate trading activities, the district cooperated with Trung Kien Company to invest over VND35 billion in constructing Long Nguyen, Hung Hoa, Tan Hung, and Tru Van Tho market. Currently, these markets are put into use.
Diversification of trades
Implementing Bau Bang district Party Resolution (2015-2020 tenure), in addition to renovating traditional markets in rural areas, building markets and supermarkets in densely populated areas, Bau Bang has encouraged rental housing, lodging houses, catering, recreation, educational, cultural, health services…; foremost, to focus on boosting markets and residential areas.
"To achieve the goal of promoting industrial - services development set by district Party Resolution, apart from enlarging commercial network in the commune, we have encouraged local people to take part in service development, upgrading Lai Uyen market to satisfy people’s demands”, said Mr. Trang.
Nguyen Huu Chi, Secretary of Bau Bang district Party Committee said, because this was a newly established district, services were mainly small-scale activities, mostly home-based businesses. Rural markets have grown well, satisfied local people’s demands. The district is planning for renovating Lai Khe market (Lai Hung commune) and Lai Uyen market towards commercial center combined with traditional market through socialization. Other rural markets will be repaired according to new rural construction criteria.
