Bau Bang focuses on hi-tech agricultural production

To achieve the annual growth of 5%-6% in agricultural production value for the 2015-2020 period, Bau Bang district has set up a program shifting the local agricultural structure towards hi-tech models. Accordingly, the district will put focus on hi-tech agricultural production, developing the local main agricultural products.

Trend formed up

Bau Bang district’s agricultural structure has so far shifted towards goods production with high quality, gradually decreasing the proportion of cultivation and increasing the proportion of animal husbandry.

According to 2015’s statistics, the district’s total area for perennial and annual plants was more than 26,000 hectares. There was a vigorous growth in animal husbandry with total herd of poultry and cattle reaching 185,099 and 1,935 million of heads, respectively. The district’s application of sci-tech advancements was also improved, contributing to raising the productivity and quality of the local agricultural products. The birth of clubs for citrus growers, models on Taiwanese guavas…also contributed to helping the district form up a trend on hi-tech agricultural production

In addition, the district’s retail network was expanded, promoting the local goods circulation and production. The district’s sector of processing agricultural products also developed strongly with synchronous and advanced production lines. This contributed to raising the added value of the local main agricultural products at consumption markets at home and abroad.

However, according to Nguyen Huu Chi, Secretary of the district’s Party Committee, the district’s agricultural sector has still faced shortcomings on production organization, processing, sci-tech application…in comparison with the local advantages and requirements of intensifying industrialization and modernization in agriculture and rural areas.

Boosting shift of agricultural structure

Based on the local real situation, Bau Bang district has set up a program on the shift of agricultural structure towards hi-tech models for the 2016-2020 period. Mr.Chi said that the program aims at building up comprehensive, modern and hi-quality agriculture in association with processing and consumption market; associating agricultural development with industrial, urban development and new rural construction; step by step forming up a hi-tech agricultural zone; increasing the value of using farming land; promoting hi-tech urban agriculture models to fully tap the efficiency of farming land in the city neighborhood areas; generating jobs for locals; meeting locals’ needs for food and ecological environment…

Accordingly, the district will carry out zoning for some agricultural production fields under hi-tech application. But, accordingly to Mr.Chi, the district must bend on infrastructure construction; develop human resources and enhance the efficiency of specialized State administration; mobilize all resources for agricultural production; strengthen sci-tech transfer and trade promotion in agricultural production, associate agricultural production with processing and consumption.

The targets of the program are to get the annual growth of 5%-6% in agricultural production value for the 2016-2020 period, in which cultivation rises up 3.5%, animal husbandry up 8.0% and agricultural services up 6.5%; reach between VND90million and VND110million in the annual average production value on one hectare of farming land…
