Mr. Vo Tan Kiet, who is now the owner of Tuan Tu discus in Chanh Nghia ward, TDM City, has been with discus breeding since 2003. He failed at the first time, but he is still staying with this job, because of his fondness for discus.
At the present, Mr. Kiet has 250 fish tanks and is preparing for 5 more ones. These fish tanks overlap each other, thus requiring a small area of 400m2, which will be appropriate for households with small land.
He breeds many types of discus, for example, red, blue, white, dove and so on, in which leopard-skin discus is popular and sold with high price. A leopard discus can be sold with a price of VND3-4mln while a normal discus’s price is VND1mln.

According to Mr. Kiet, discus breeding requires many efforts. Their foods are imported beef hearts, ground tubifex mixed with tonics. Common diseases in discus are intestinal diseases, parasites in gills. However, we cannot use too many medicines for discus, because of low productivity. Another difficulty is selecting male and female discuses for breeding.
His discuses have been sold in many places like Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Da Nang and even foreign countries. He and his son also established a website to sell online discuses. His profit in 2013 was VND1.2bln.
He is willing to share techniques, knowledge, supply discus, food to persons who want to breed discus. There have been many persons from different places coming to learn about Mr. Kiet model. Mr. Nguyen Ha Tan at Tan Phuoc Khanh ward, Tan Uyen town said, thanks to Mr. Kiet, he has now 30 fish tanks and a monthly income of VND3-5mln.
Mr. Kiet said: “Discus breeding help people not only escaping poverty but also enriching themselves. Binh Duong is an ideal environment for discus breeding, because of warm weather, clean water”.
