Since being separated from Ben Cat district, Ben Cat town has made efforts in setting up and implementing a plan on urban development. This will contribute to creating the foundation for the town to become a third-class city.
Advantages
Ben Cat town has focused on socio-economic development right after being established. The town’s economic growth in the 2015-2017 period reached nearly 21% per year. So far, the town has been among the province’s top three urban-industrial areas. Possibly seeing, the town’s urban infrastructure gradually perfected has contributed to perfecting basic criteria of a third-class city. This has also created favorable conditions for the town to continue well tapping the local advantages for sustainable and quick development.

With a favorable position with well-built traffic infrastructure, the town is the important gate for trade activities of the southeastern region in general and Binh Duong in particular via main streets, namely the Highway 13; the My Phuoc-Tan Van expressway; the belt road 4; DT741, DT744, DT748 and DT749A streets…The relationship between the town and cities in the region and the province also plays a vital role in socio-economic development. This is one of favorable factors for the town to absorb investment projects in industrial manufacture, trade-service, finance-banking…Noticeably, along with the evolution of the central urban area, the town has formed up industrial-urban parks, contributing to increasing the local urban area.
The town is now home to 8 industrial parks of 4,030 hectares and 1 concentrated production area of 47.7 hectares in Tan Dinh ward. Till now, town-based industrial parks have been basically covered by investors and generated jobs for around 160,000 laborers. In terms of services, the town has absorbed many investment projects in urban infrastructure development at people’s demand, thereby contributing to promoting the local socio-economic development.
Local advantages well tapped
Leaders of the town, the town mobilized resources to improve the quality of urban development towards a third-class city over the past time. Accordingly, the town constructed 207 works on traffic, education, healthcare, electricity…The town’s socio-economic development also facilitated the local State budget collection. In the first half of 2018 alone, the town’s State budget collection was estimated at more than VND852billion, a year-on-year increase of 6%. Noticeably, the average income per capital of the local people has been improved a lot. The figure in 2016 and 2017 was VND73million and VND102million, respectively and it is expected to reach VND114.3million in 2018.
Over the past time, the town made the planning of 37 urban-residential areas with nearly 2,800 hectares; built nearly 1,400 social houses for laborers; created a synchronous infrastructure system, opening opportunities for the town to rise up on the way of industrialization and modernization.
Huynh Thu Lap, Vice-Chairman of the town’s People’s Committee said that the town needs to ensure harmony between economic development and environmental protection; between new urban areas and urban rejuvenation; between urban architecture space and socio-technical infrastructure. Along with this, the town has made efforts to well realize the set resolutions; continued making strong and comprehensive renewal, creating a breakthrough in terms of socio-economic infrastructure construction towards sustainable development.
Being recognized as a third-class city will be the premise for the town to well tap potentialities and take full advantage of the chance to reach robust growth in all aspects. This will help the town develop into a civilized and modern city and a huge industrial hub of the province.
