The province’s policy bringing industrial manufacture to the northern region to form up the foundation for a breakthrough herein has upheld its efficiency, creating a driving force for Ben Cat district’s socio-economic development.
Acceleration of industrial development
As an agricultural locality, Ben Cat town has created a breakthrough in industrial manufacture after 13 years of development.
The birth of industrial parks and compounds in the town has started a process to promote the local industrial development. The town is now home to 9 industrial parks and compounds with nearly 3,200 hectares in total. Noticeably, My Phuoc 1, 2, 3 and 4 industrial park in My Phuoc and Thoi Hoa wards with modern and synchronous infrastructure have so far absorbed nearly 400 FDI projects capitalized at nearly US$3bln. Many great corporations, including the US$360mln-tire factory of South Korea’s Kumho Asiana Group, the US$180mln-paper factory of Thailand’s Graft Vina Company, the US$104mln-factory of Maruzen Foods Corporation… have worked very effectively at the industrial parks.

Many other industrial parks in An Tay commune, namely Viet Huong 2, An Tay, Rach Bap…have also lured nearly 80 FDI projects with a total investment capital of US$700mln.
Industrial development has helped Ben Cat town’s economy reach great growth at present. In 2014 alone, the town’s total production value achieved more than VND58.4trillion, up 15.5% compared to 2013. The local economic structure was 85.73% in industry, 13.5% in service and 0.77% in agriculture. Estimatedly, the town’s economic growth in 2014 was 63 times higher than 2002.
Urban and service development promoted
The efficiency from industry has positively affected Ben Cat town’s urban infrastructure development.
The town has also early planned urban and residential areas at the local people’s demand of housing under the trend of industrialization in association with urbanization. During the urban development process, the town has given priority to building urban areas in a synchronous way to serve its sustainable development goal. The whole town now has 45 urban and residential areas with 3,000 hectares in total.
Moreover, urban and industrial development has created a motivation for Ben Cat town to promote the local trade-service sector. This has considerably improved the lives of the local people with the annual average income of VND53mln per capita. The modern and civilized urban image has also been formed up across the town, especially in My Phuoc ward.
Ben Cat town now focuses on sustainable industrial development. Particularly, along with infrastructure investment in industrial manufacture and traffic, the town has paid attention to social welfare issues on education, health and housing for laborers.
With combined measures plus the local advantages on synchronous infrastructure connecting key streets like Highway 13, DT744 with HCM city and localities in the South key economic zone, and the projects of the Tan Van-My Phuoc expressway, the Trans-Asia highway…under construction, Ben Cat town will continue accelerating the local economic growth.
