As a newly-established town, Ben Cat now focuses on urban rejuvenation that is developed towards civilization, modernity and synchronization regarding social and technical infrastructure. But, the town’s urban development still faces some obstacles.

Paying attention to urban rejuvenation
Nguyen Hong Khanh, Chairman of Ben Cat town’s People’s Committee said that the town has made its overall plan on socio-economic development; carried out function-based planning for wards and zoned the use of land in accordance with the yearly plan. The town has so far fulfilled a plan on new rural construction for 3 communes of An Dien, An Tay and Phu An. According to Mr.Khanh, this is one of the town’s great programs for urban development.
In addition, Ben Cat town has attached special importance to infrastructure investment. Since April after being established, the town has worked out a total of 5 traffic works of 2.43km with total expense of VND7.839bln; upgraded 3 roads of 26.4km with total expense of VND1.883trillion, thereby basically satisfying the local demand for development and facilitating the local people’s traveling.
The town has also hastened site clearance for some works and especially fulfilled the 2-9 street project. Moreover, the town has made a synchronous infrastructure investment in terms of power, water supply and drainage, environmental protection…, meeting the local people’s demand for production and daily life.
Regarding social infrastructure, the town has bent on building and upgrading several schools in An Dien commune, Hoa Loi ward…in a bid to cater the local people’s demand for teaching and learning.
The town has also continued facilitating FDI and domestic enterprises’ development; promoted the local network of markets, trade centers, supermarkets…, contributing to building up a three-class city in the coming time.
Towards a civilized and modern city
According to Huynh Thu Lap, Vice-Chairman of Ben Cat town’s People’s Committee, urban rejuvenation and infrastructure development are a very important task for the newly-established town like Ben Cat. Along with initial results, the town now faced difficulties for change.
The town’s Party Committee and People’s Committee have put forward measures towards the local sustainable development. According to Mr.Khanh, the town will further speed up propaganda work to raise awareness of the local sectors and people from all strata about their responsibility in developing Ben Cat into a civilized and modern city.
The town will also urgently perfect a waste water treatment system for households living in the center of the town; take effective measures in environmental protection; tighten control over granting construction licenses as stipulated; be determined to handle illegally-built works, street markets…; take appropriate measures to absorb more investors with competence in terms of investment capital and technologies regarding environmental hygiene, waste collection and treatment…
