Building smart cities is now a movement of urban areas in the world and Vietnam is also getting access to this. Binh Duong is one of the country’s localities with advantageous conditions to be able to soon become a smart city.
Potentials
According to Dr.Nguyen Ngoc Hieu from Vietnamese-German University, the definition of “smart city” has been used since 2005 by technology companies. It is characterised by information, technology-based smart solutions to administration, transport, energy, healthcare and education, among others.
He said that Binh Duong has a lot of advantages in urban development that is recognized widely. According to many experts, large land fund with cheap price, young workforce and open policies are seen as one of the province’s advantages in this field. The province’s basic difference from other localities is the urbanization process associated with industrialization plus infrastructure with bright spots. The potential for expanding urban areas and perfecting services in the province is still great. This will be the advantage to make great investment for smart technology application plans.
A glance of Binh Duong new city
Over the past time, Binh Duong received an investment commitment from Japan for smart city construction. Meanwhile, in 2015, provincial leaders received and worked with a delegation of Eindhoven province in Holland. At the reception, delegation head Peter Porheine, Director of Brainport Corporation said that the goal of the visit was to provide Binh Duong with suggestions on impulsing hi-tech and environmentally friendly activities; the smart development model in association with “smart city” definitions in urban development. With existing advantages, it is believed that Binh Duong in the coming time will soon become a smart city. Eindhoven province will also boost cooperation with Binh Duong and this cooperation with bring benefits to both the two sides.
Taking effective measures
Also at the reception, Tran Van Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of provincial Party Committee said: Through researches by countries in the world, the world’s development is affected by knowledge. Binh Duong’s investment and development have to experience a new period based on knowledge. This is hi-tech application in production, ensuring sustainable development.
According to experts, seizing control of technology needs to be linked with promoting administration capacity and improving smart technology range from work, field to city levels. This requires the initiative of the local government in regional connectivity.
Effective cooperation is considered as one of important elements leading to “smartness”. Besides, making data public will optimize resources, which must be developed, maintained by an open system and be certified by the government, businesses and society. Mechanism making decisions also needs to be concerned; selecting priority fields needs to have proper researches.
