In Oct 2019, Binh Duong for the second time in a row was honored as one of the top 21 provinces and cities that have the world's most typical smart city development strategy in 2020 (Smart 21). This result affirms the right and effective development direction of smart city, in line with the world trend. At the same time, it has great significance for Binh Duong to continue to make breakthrough in socio-economic development, creating an important motivation for the province to strive more on the path of integration and sustainable development.

To prove the right and effective direction
In the strategy of smart city building, the introduction of Binh Duong brand name and investment opportunities of the province are one of the important contents. To perform this, the province cooperated with, registered and was admitted to the world Intelligent Community Forum (ICF).
ICF announced that Binh Duong was one of the top 21 provinces and cities having the most typical smart city development strategy of the world in 2020. This result proves the right and effective development direction of the province, in line with the world trend.
Mai Hùng Dũng, Member of Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee, Director of Binh Duong Smart City's Executive Board, said that the Binh Duong Smart Region had joined ICF and Smart 21 Communities for 2 consecutive years. It has a great significance to continue the socio-economic development breakthrough, creating an important motivation for the province to strive more on the path of integration and sustainable development. This also validated the development of smart city to be effective and consistent with the global trend; elevating Binh Duong to a new position in the international arena; opening up opportunities to cooperate and exchange experiences with ICF's network of more than 180 thriving cities around the world.
This result also strengthened the foundation for Binh Duong to continue to make a breakthrough in attracting foreign investment, intellectual labor and institutions in the world; for developing high-tech services and productions in the future. All strategies and steps turn towards a smart city; towards a higher added value of enterprises, improving the quality of people lives.

According to Huynh Cong Thang, co-founder and CEO of InnoLab Asia, Binh Duong is one of the dynamic development areas of the southern key economic region. “I think that Binh Duong Smart City successively became one of 21 provinces and cities that have the most typical development strategy of the world's commercial cities in 2020. This is a big turning point in the process of a dynamic economic region construction and world integration. This has a great impact helping to establish more strong international relationships with smart communities around the world to exchange information, experience, and attract many talented people to Binh Duong. Binh Duong's position is increasingly appreciated and equal to many big cities like Eindhoven of the Netherlands," Mr. Thang said.
Turing towards a knowledge economy
The province planed for an area called Binh Duong Smart Region, which covers provincial southern part of the province, and was selected based on international criteria. This area gathers urban centers, educational and industrial research areas of the province.
In Oct 2018, Binh Duong Smart Region was the first locality in Vietnam to achieve Smart21 and officially became a member of ICF. This result is an important initial step to reach international level, showing that Binh Duong is gradually forming a foundation for new breakthroughs. At the end of 2018, the province continuously hosted a series of world-class events such as Asia Horasis Meeting, the Global Innovation Forum, WTA Asia Summit... with the participation of thousands of government, business and institute leaders around the globe, creating great buzz and breakthrough in attracting investment, cooperating to exchange international experience between Binh Duong and localities, partners, businesses in the world.
Recently, the province has received much attention from international organizations. In particular, the successful hosting of many world-class events in both economics and science, the brand name of Binh Duong is increasingly spreading. In 2019, the province performed new programs for Smart City, socio-economic development solutions. More importantly, the province successfully hosted Horasis Asia Meeting 2019.
Trần Thanh Liêm, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that Horasis Asia Meeting 2019 helped the province to find important modern solutions to reallocate the province's development resources according to more effective direction and be applied appropriately into provincial actual situation in the coming time. Since then, contributing to provincial dynamic economic and ready for international integration; effectively serve the process of industrialization, modernization and realization of the development objective of Binh Duong to become a smart city, bringing a better life for the people.
In addition, the province boosted innovation, supported businesses, opening up strong waves of start-up, building incubation, innovation centers that were closely connected with the Government, institutes - universities, and businesses, bringing investment attraction ability to a new level. The province continues the partnership with Singapore, Eindhoven City, Daejeon City (South Korea), and WTA to realise the idea of scientific and technological industrial park construction to create a new added value for Binh Duong.
Notably, in Sep 2019, the province started the construction of a complex at the heart of Binh Duong new city, creating a feature of commercial services. World Trade Center of Binh Duong New City (WTC BDNC) became an official member of the World Trade Center Association (WTCA). These is an important turning point for service sector of the province to take the new steps.
In Nov 2019, the province held the announcement ceremony of WTC BDNC. WTC BDNC will serve as a platform to support international trade - services activities in Binh Duong and neighboring provinces and developed regions. The center will consolidate domestic and foreign resources (including facilities and international trade services); is a new destination for everyone.
The province is currently put effort into e-government, creating favorable conditions and encouraging businesses, organizations in the province to digitize, apply technologies, improve knowledge and develop smart factories. The province also conducts research on logistics, new transportation solutions to create the best conditions for businesses and people.
It can be asserted that, with the aforementioned results and orientations, in addition to Smart City projects being proposed and implemented by units, unified under the provincial leadership, Binh Duong socio-economic situation is on a rise, step by step creating a foundation for the province to enter a new era, towards the knowledge economy, digital economy, to keep pace with of the 4.0 Industry.
