Implementing the provincial party committee's Resolution of the 9th party congress for the term of 2010-2015, the provincial party committee built Binh Duong provincial urban development program for the period of 2011-2015 and vision till 2020. The program eyes the goal of reaching the first class urban standard by 2015 and becoming the central city by 2020.

Completing many important goals
Through 3 years of implementing the program of developing Binh Duong urban area for the period of 2011-2015, the provincial technical and social infrastructure facilities are improved, winning 14 out of 18 set criteria. Of these, some criteria get and surpass the program's standards.
Specifically, the annual average economic growth reached 14% as of
Binh Duong reaches a rapid urbanization pace. In reality, the province gains 81.86% in rate of urbanization, compared with 65% in 2011. Besides, average house floor area in the province 22.16sqm per person compared with the first class urban criteria of 15sqm.
Nguyen Thanh Tai, director of the provincial Construction Department said that implementing the program of urban development, the local administration sets up some planning projects of rural-urban building.
Over the past years, the local administration basically meets requirements of socio-economic development orientation. Besides, quality of establishing and assessing construction planning makes much progress.
One advantage of the process of urban development is that the provincial People's Committee ratified the common planning project of Binh Duong urban construction till 2020 and vision till 2030 and the project of adjusting the common planning of Thu Dau Mot urban area till 2020.
Besides, there are the common planning of building areas of Nam Ben Cat, Nam Tan Uyen till 2030 and vision till 2050 and the common planning of building urban areas of Bau Bang, Tan Thanh, Ben Suc, Long Hoa, Minh Hoa till 2020 and vision to 2030.
Since 2011, the total provincial projects of construction and urban planning is at 113 projects and 36 of which are under construction. Tai added that Binh Duong now launches and executes roadmap of upgrading urban areas of Thu Dau Mot, Nam Ben Cat, Nam Tan Uyen, Bau Bang, Bac Tan Uyen in line with the provincial planning.
Additionally, the local authority synchronous implements plannings, plans, technical and social infrastructure projects and perfects network of traffic infrastructure facilities. Key works and big projects of the program as well as projects of social houses are under construction.
In addition, the local authority spurs works of health care, education-training, gymnastics-sport. Until now, the local administration reaches about 40% of plans set out in the program of urban development for the period of 2011-2015.
Overcoming shortcomings
Compared with the first class urban criteria, Binh Duong completes 4 criteria of inner urban traffic land, urban green tree land, inner waste water treatment and solid waste treatment.
Besides, there remains traffic jams on peak hours, flooding at the Southern urban areas, shortage of accommodation for workers and more.
According to Nguyen Thanh Tai, owing to the global economic recession, the work on State management is impacted badly. Therefore, some criteria of the program of urban development remain low. Meanwhile, cooperation and settlement from functional agencies remain lack of synchronousness, among others.
In order to strongly develop the program in the coming time, the local administration sets out some tasks such as launching implementation of tasks, programs of developing urban areas for the period of 2011-2015; developing green urban areas and clean industry and more.
Tai added that to improve 4 remaining criteria, it is necessary to implement measures of improving Nam Binh Duong water environment, soon investing in solid waste treatment area at Tan Long commune, Phu Giao district.
