Binh Duong’s CPI in August increases slightly

Since July, the supply of some food products in the province has been in the low period. August is the month starting a new academic year, but the province has still seen a slight increase in consumer price index (CPI). This information has just been reported by the local functional agencies.

Stable prices

Over the past few days, Thu Dau Mot market still got animatedly with the cry of goods with cheap price from small traders. It is hoped that goods will be best-selling after consumers’ period for vegetarian diet, according to some small traders at the market.

But after the 15th day of lunar July, there has been a slow consumption for vegetables, fruits, fish and meat. The price of many kinds of vegetables has decreased by VND1,000-VND2,000 per kg. For example, field cabbage is sold at VND10,000 per kg. Cucumber is at VND13,000 per kg…

At some other markets, namely Bung, Thai Thieu…, the price of various vegetables and fruits is VND2,000-VND3,000 per kg higher than those sold at wholesales markets in the province.

Since July, according to provincial Department of Finance, the price of essential consumer commodities has remained stable. Thanks to having an abundant supply plus the timely instruction of the central and local authorities and the efforts by enterprises, there was no fluctuation on price for essential commodities during the last April 30 and May 1 holiday.

Purchasing power

After the joyful summer vacation, pupils at all levels have started a new academic year, so province-based supermarkets, namely Vinatex, Co.opMart, Metro…, have seen an increase in purchasing power.

A representative of Thu Dau Mot city-based Big C supermarket said that the supermarket’s purchasing power has increased slightly over the past three weeks. It is expected to reach a strong growth in the following weeks, especially on the upcoming September 2 holiday.

According to statistics by provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the province’s total retail sales revenue of commodities and services in July was estimated at more than VND8.1trillion, up 0.9% compared to the previous month. In the first seven months of the year, the figure reached more than VND59.1trillion, up 18.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2013.

As surveyed, purchasing power in the domestic market is being improved in many other localities nationwide. The CPI in August will increase slightly. It is predicted that some factors, including weather, supply of commodities…,will affect August’s CPI. August is the month staring a new academic year, so the price of some commodities is likely to reach a slight surge.
