Sixteen years ago when just being reestablished, Phu Giao was an agricultural district with many difficulties. Strong change
Till now, Phu Giao district had education and healthcare systems with national standard investment. The district’s main traffic system has been invested under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) form. Especially, the district has constructed 2 bridges connecting An Linh and An Long communes, Tam Lap and Tan Dinh communes. The district’s socio-economic infrastructure has also had synchronous investment, in which investment will be prioritized for traffic, urban, educational, healthcare and cultural works.

Currently, the whole district has a total of 15 preschools, 15 primary schools, 8 secondary schools, 3 high school schools and 1 continuing education centers. There are 27 out of 36 district-based schools recognized as national standard ones; 100% of communes and township of the district reaching national standards on universal education; more than 99.9%, 95.5% and 98% of pupils completing educational programs at primary, secondary and high-school levels. In terms of traffic infrastructure, the district’s rural traffic network has been upgraded, facilitating locals’ traveling and goods transportation.
Striving to become a new-style rural district in 2018
With sound policies on development of agriculture, farmers and rural areas, especially after three-year implementation of the national target program on new-style rural construction, the rural image of Phu Giao has changed quickly. Tan Long commune is a typical example for this. In the coming time, the image of the commune will continue developing quickly as the program on new-style rural construction is being boosted there.
Doan Van Dong, Chairman of Phu Giao district’s People’s Committee said that experience plus the integral efforts by the entire political system, people from all strata and the business community, the district will soon fulfill all criteria of the program on new-style rural construction in 2018.
Since early this year, the district’s agro-forestry production value has reached approximately VND1.5trillion, up 2.6% compared to the same period last year. As of late 2016, the number of the local poor households reduced to 360 households under the province’s poverty line or 1.63% of total. The district will strive to decrease the rate of poor households to 0.3%-0.5% under the province’s new poverty line this year.
