After a survey and learning of models of planting and taking care of ornamental trees at professional orchid gardens in Cu Ch and Hoc Mon districts of HCMC, Dieu realized that orchid has been a popular style of ornamental tree lovers, so she has started involving in the model. The 36-year-old woman’s decision has brought a large income for her family. Only with 3,000sqm of land, Dieu’s family has reaped more than VND100mil.
Witnessing success of Dieu, many people in hamlet 1B arrived at her house to learn about the model of planting orchid and buy her nurslings. Realizing local farmers’ great attention to planting orchid, Chanh Phu Hoa commune People’s Committee urgently sent a petition to Ben Cat district Economic Division and functional agencies to co-hold classes on planting and taking care of ornamental trees in general and orchid in particular.
Nguyen Thanh Tung, vice chairman of Chanh Phu Hoa commune People’s Committee said “When Chanh Phu Hoa commune People’s Committee set out an announcement on opening training class on planting and taking care of ornamental trees, numerous people flocked to join in the first day”.
Ambition and well-trained technique, tens of households in the commune again rebuilt their orchid gardens. Turnover from selling nurslings and orchid at the Chanh Phu Hoa orchid village has increased sharply and thenceforth this village has become famous.
Cooperating with each other to make wealth
As a famous orchid village, Chanh Phu Hoa has enjoyed many advantages in expanding distribution network. In order to meet clients’ demand on orchid, this orchid village has developed its cultivation area and varieties.
At present, the entire commune is home to more than 20 orchid growing households with the total area of 5ha and total income of billions of VND per year. Chanh Phu Hoa orchid growers have gathered into a cooperative team to share experiences and seek out output for their products.
Aside from helping each other in spirit, they have mutually assisted in nurslings and capital sources. Nguyen Van Nam, the orchid grower in this commune said that in the first days of planting orchid, he faced many difficulties of technique, capital and output of products. After joining in the cooperative, his family has enjoyed about VND120mil in income from the 2,800sqm orchid garden.
“To develop this orchid village stably, every one must unite and help each other to create trademark of Chanh Phu Hoa orchid”, said Dieu, head of Chanh Phu Hoa orchid cooperative team.
At present, Chanh Phu Hoa commune People’s Committee has encouraged local residents to develop this orchid growing model. Accordingly, the commune in cooperation with functional agencies has constantly held vocational training classes on planting and taking care of ornamental trees.
Nguyen Thanh Tung, vice chairman of the commune People’s Committee said “In the coming year, if area and quantity of orchid growing households increase and develop stably, the communal administration will set up a cooperative to create a solid position for Chanh Phu Hoa orchid village”.
