Collection of samples to check for banned substances at animal feed stores promoted

Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, on Dec.25, forwarded a conference on the local animal husbandry sector’s real situation, development orientations in the 2016-2020 period and control over banned substances in the sector.

According to provincial Statistics Department, as of Oct.2015, the whole province had a total of more than 28,000 cows, buffaloes and more than 7.1million fowls. There were 184 out of 743 hi-tech based animal husbandry farms.

Animal husbandry is oriented to become a key element in the local agricultural sector with the proportion till 2020 occupying 40% of the sector’s total value. The province will give priority to developing animal husbandry farms and enterprises under the industrial or semi-industrial formula with hi-tech application.

Regarding the control over banned substances in animal husbandry, in 2015, provincial Animal Health Department coordinated with functional agencies to collect samples at slaughterhouses for test. The test results showed that there were 5 cases relating to pigs containing the beta-agonist banned substances.

In the face of the situation, the Department put forward some measures on strengthening the collection of samples to check for banned substances at animal feed stores and veterinary medicine ones; organized meetings with breeders, dealers and butchers, helping them know more about regulations in animal husbandry.
