Vietnam and Finland has set a diplomatic relationship on Jan. 25, 1973. In 1974, the Finnish government officially opened its embassy at Ha Noi, a turning-point for developing a long-term socio-economic partnership for the two countries. In the first stage, cooperation between the two nations focused mainly on humanitarian assistance made by Finland. After that, long-term programs of development assistance made by Finland were launched such as Pha Rung seagoing vessel repair factory in Hai Phong province in the period of 1979-1991, water supply project in Ha Noi in the period of 1985-2001, hygiene and water supply project in Hai Phong in the period of 1990-2004. The Finnish government also assisted many important projects for other fields such as forestry, poverty reduction and rural development… According to assessment from the embassy of Finland, most of the projects sponsored by the Finnish government were used effectively, contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
The compost fertilizer plant project with a capacity of 420 tons/day was launched at South Binh Duong solid waste treatment compound in 2011. The euro 6.7mil expense of the project was donated by the Finnish government through ODA capital source. The state-of-the-art equipments served for the plant were imported from Finland. The provincial leaders highly appreciated the project, owing to its effectivity. The project not only creates economic values but reduces discharge of wastes.
Especially, the project was suggested to be one of crucial events on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Finland relationship by Jan. 2013. Therefore, from now till the end of this year, the project’s investor and contractors must finish the remaining items to put the plant into operation.
The first bags of compost fertilizer will be expected by not only investor, Binh Duong provincial administration but the Finnish government. The key project’s success will satisfy sponsors to create donations for the other projects in Binh Duong in particular and Vietnam in general.
