Binh Duong’s control of epidemic in cattle and poultry reached high results in the past year. However, to minimize loss of the epidemic, the local agriculture sector remains many things to do.
High results of epidemic combat
In 2010, the work of epidemic combat became complicated, owing to bad weather. The local functional agencies launched measures of sterilization, vaccination to curb spreading of epidemic in poultry and cattle.
By such measures, the province in the past year had no epidemic in poultry and cattle. 10,992 poultries in the entire province were vaccinated, reaching over 119.48% from 2009. Over 90% of pigs were vaccinated diseases of foot-mouth, cholera, paratyphoid. Meanwhile, control of slaughter and veterinary hygiene at household-based livestock farms and slaughtering houses reached a high rate.
Basic measures needed
As forecasted, weather in 2011 will become more complicated, so spreading of epidemic diseases is in high risks. To raise residents’ awareness on epidemic control, propagation and anti-epidemic measure should be strengthened and conducted synchronously.
Trade of cattle and poultry products should be controlled closely.
And, to reach safety in epidemic control, zoning on animal husbandry should be considered as basic solution. Nguyen Van Sau, vice director of local department of Trade and Industry, said “the local steering board of epidemic control in poultry and cattle should control products of poultry and cattle at markets and set out concrete measures for breeders”.
Addressing the summing-up conference on epidemic control in cattle and poultry in 2010, Tran Van Nam, the local People’s Committee vice chairman stressed that in 2011 functional agencies should support ways of epidemic control for breeders and strengthen inspections on slaughter, poultry and cattle transport as well as wipe out animal husbandry at residential areas.
