Efficiency from cooperative model

Long Tan cooperative in Dau Tieng district is one of the province’s most modern models of breeding dairy cows. The cooperative was established in August 2013 with 16 members and more than VND 9.3bln in charter capital. Currently, it includes 50 members and more than 500 dairy cows.

Nguyen Van Khuong, Head of Long Tan cooperative said that over the past 6 months, the cooperative started construction of a cow dairy purchasing station in Long Tan commune’s Vung Tay hamlet with a total expense of more than VND1.2bln. It is designed with the state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the quality of dairy in order to supply for Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk).

Members of the cooperative have changed to growing elephant grass for dairy cows on their areas growing crop plants with low economic efficiency. The cooperative has also attached special importance to animal health. Particularly, its dairy cows get vaccination twice a year with total expense supported by Dau Tieng district’s Veterinary Department. The quality of dairy cow herein is always ensured, due to good investment.

With the current price of between VND14,500 and VND15,000 a kg of cow dairy, members of the cooperative secure the monthly income of VND30mln. Pham Van Khoi, a member of the cooperative said that he has got involved in the model of breeding dairy cows since 2006. So far, his family has owned a farmstead of 30 dairy cows with the annual income of more than VND200mln.

According to him, when getting involved in breeding dairy cows, breeders need to pay attention to selecting good breeding animals, following a strict regime, making vaccination…Dairy cows begin giving breeders dairy after being bred for two years. During the harvest period, dairy cows also need to receive good care from breeders.

The Animal Husbandry Division under provincial Veterinary Department has just mapped out a cooperative plan with the People’s Committees, the Farmers’ Associations of communes in Dau Tieng district and Long Tan cooperative on organizing training courses on how to breeding dairy cows for the local farmers.

According to Truong Van Duc, Head of provincial Veterinary Department said that before the sharp development of the breeding dairy cows model, the department will organize a lot of training courses on the animal husbandry model for the local farmers, hold tours to effective breeding farmsteads to get experience from them for better investment results…

Provincial Veterinary Department has also guided the local farmers how to effectively develop the model of breeding dairy cows and how to form up cooperation groups and cooperatives for this animal husbandry model. Furthermore, the department will continue supporting the local farmers to well realize measures on sci-tech application and advanced models so that breeding dairy cows can get better results.
