Dau Tieng district aims to meet the new advanced rural standards

On the foundation of being recognized as a new rural district in 2015, Dau Tieng district has been focusing all resources on building socio-economic infrastructure, improving the quality of new rural criteria to fulfill the goal of building a new rural area and a district of new and enhanced rural standards in 2023-2025.

Salanganes'Nest products of the Agricultural Cooperative, trade and service Salanganes'Nest in Minh Tan commune have been recognized by the province to meet the 3-star OCOP standard.

A civilized countryside

Getting back to Dau Tieng district today, it is easy to see that the rural appearance in all localities has become more spacious, cleaner and more beautiful. District and inter-commune roads are asphalted while roads managed by communes are solidified with red gravel, of which 41% of roads are asphalted or cement concrete.

Identifying agriculture as a strength, the district has also gradually shifted towards high-tech agriculture associated with processing and restructuring towards increasing added values. Rubber is still the main crop of the district. The average yield of rubber in the whole district is 1.46 tons a hectare. For the current selling price at VND 35 million a ton, revenue is expected to be VND 54.4 million a hectare a year. 800 hectares of fruit trees are mainly citrus, transplanted bananas, melons, avocados among others. In which, tangerines, oranges and grapefruits are concentrated in the northern communes of the district such as Minh Thanh, Minh Hoa, and Dinh An; mangosteen, durian in Thanh Tuyen commune, Thanh An with revenue from VND 1.4-1.6 billion a hectare a year; transplanted bananas are concentrated in Thanh An commune and Minh Tan with more than 330 hectares for revenue of VND 689 million a hectare a year.

In addition to agricultural development, the district creates conditions for organizations and individuals to invest in production, and encourages the development of handicrafts, trade and services in the countryside. In 2018-2022, the district has invited 55 businesses and 17 handicraft establishments to invest with a capital of over VND 880 billion, bringing the total number of businesses in the area to 487 enterprises and 1 industrial cluster operating stably. As a result of investment expansion, production and business scale has been increased to create regular jobs for more than 14,000 local workers. The material life of rural people has been significantly improved.

According to Nguyen Phuong Linh, Chairman of the district People's Committee, the rural economic development has created regular jobs for workers, increased population income, reduced the poverty rate, and maintained social order and safety for sustainable new rural development. Since 2018, the district's economy has grown each year from 13.24 to 14.47% as the proportion of industry and services has gradually increased in the economic structure of the district.

Efforts to the finish line

Up to now, Dau Tieng district has 9 communes that have been recognized as meeting new rural standards in 2018-2020. Entering the new term of 2021-2025, the new set of criteria for rural communes has been enhanced with harder and higher contents and conditions, the district continues to review the weak and unsatisfied indicators and criteria in the communes to building new rural areas to improve sustainability. In addition, obstacles are removed to bring the remaining two communes of Minh Thanh and An Lap to the newly-advanced rural commune in 2023, contributing to bringing Dau Tieng district to a newly-advanced rural district.

The 2 communes not yet meeting the standards are currently fulfilling the criteria to reach the finish line early in the newly-advanced countryside. Thai Van Kiem - Chairman of Minh Thanh commune People's Committee, said that the commune has not met the criteria for health and environment. The commune requested guidance on criteria such as solid waste classification, remote health examination, multidimensional poverty criteria for 2021-2025. As for the criterion of households using clean water, if the clean water pipeline for people is tested and accepted in the commune, the criterion is considered completed. Similarly, the leader of An Lap commune also said that the commune currently has OCOP of melons, but it has not yet been able to put the product on the e-commerce platforms. The criterion of the percentage of households using clean water according to regulations from the centralized water supply system is low at 54.9%. The commune proposes to expand the water supply system.

Nguyen Phong Huy, Director of the Sub-Department of Rural Development, said that the branch had a plan to invite relevant units to guide the communes, especially two communes that are striving to achieve the new advanced rural commune in 2023 to complete the criteria related to the agricultural and rural development sector. For products that have achieved OCOP certification, the branch will send the list to the Department of Industry and Trade to update the products on the e-commerce platforms. The remaining unsatisfactory criteria such as environment, health, irrigation etc. will be guided by relevant agencies and departments on how to complete.
