Provincial People's Committee issued Decision approving the master plan for inland port and wharf system in Binh Duong province up to 2020 with a vision to 2030. Accordingly, by 2020, the province will build a system of ports and wharves to meet transport demands with the transport volume of more than 8 million tons of cargo and over 3 million passengers by 2020; In the period of 2021-2025, the port and wharf system will continue to be built to meet transport demands with a volume of over 20 million tons of cargo and nearly 6 million passengers by 2025; After 2025, will complete the port and wharf system to meet the transport demand with the transport volume of more than 40 million tons of cargo and more than 8 million passengers by 2030, the volume of water transport shall be around 15% of total transportation demand of the whole province.
Provincial People's Committee assigned Department of Transportation to collaborate with related departments and agencies, People's Committees of districts, towns and city to implement the planning of inland waterway ports, including 10 cargo ports, 1 passenger port, and 7 specialized ports; remove and reopen some cargo terminals. Provincial People's Committee also assigned Department of Transportation to upgrade and open some passenger wharves; suspend the operation of cross-river passenger wharves failing to meet the prescribed requirements and open some new cross-river passenger wharves.
