Developing Ben Cat into a civilized and modern city

Thanks to the efforts by authorities at all levels, Ben Cat town has reached high growth with surge in terms of FDI capital. There has been a synchronous infrastructure system with large-scale industrial parks in operation, opening up opportunities for the town to fly further.

Sustainable, fast growth

After being re-established, Ben Cat town has concentrated on socio-economic development, especially urban development. The town’s economic growth for the period of 2015-2017 gained nearly 21% a year. Noticeably, the town is now among the province’s top 3 urban-industrial areas. The town has step by step perfected the local infrastructure system, contributing to fulfilling criteria of a third-class city and creating advantageous conditions for the town to continue well tapping the local advantages for sustainable and fast growth. Since its re-establishment in 2014, the town has built 92 rural and urban roads with a total investment capital of more than VND81billion. The town has also strengthened site clearance for projects on power, water supply-drainage, environmental protection…at locals and enterprises’ needs for daily life and production.

The town has a strategic position in the northern region of the province with a good infrastructure system, is a vital gate for trade activities of the southeastern region in general and the province in particular. This is one of advantageous elements for the town’s development in terms of industrial production and trade-services. Along with the evolution of the central urban area, the town has formed up plenty of urban-industrial areas…

The town is now home to 8 industrial parks (Ips) of 4,030 hectares and 1 concentrated production zone of 47.7 hectares in Tan Dinh ward. So far, the town has absorbed 2,737 domestic investment projects with a total registered capital of more than VND31.3trillion and 589 FDI projects capitalized at US$6.2billion. Basically, town-based Ips have been covered by investors and generated jobs for around 160,000 laborers. Over the past years, the town attracted special importance to many projects in terms of infrastructure development, contributing to the local socio-economic development.

Continuing well tapping potential

The town mobilized all resources to improve its urban quality towards reaching criteria of a third-class city over the past time. Accordingly, the town constructed 207 works on traffic, education, healthcare, electricity…The town’s socio-economic development also facilitated the local State budget collection and spending. Over the past nine months, the town’s State budget revenue was estimated at more than VND1.28trillion, up 8% compared to the same period. The average income per capita of the local people in 2017 increased to VND102million from VND73million in 2016. The figure in 2018 is estimated at VND114.3million.

The town also zoned 37 urban residential areas with nearly 2,800 hectares, built nearly 1,400 social houses for poor laborers while giving priority to constructing urban public works, sports ones…

Huynh Van Nghe, Chairman of Ben Cat town’s People’s Committee said that the town will become a third-class city in 2018 and a smart city in the future. Hence, the town has made efforts in ensuring harmonious coherence between economic development and environmental protection, between new urban development and urban rejuvenation…Along with this, the town has tried to build a synchronous socio-economic infrastructure system towards sustainable development.

Possibly speaking, being recognized as a third-class city towards a second-class city will be the opportunity, the premise for the town to continue well tapping the local potential. This will help the town become a civilized and modern city with the high quality of life and a powerful industrial hub of the province.
