Di An town’s agricultural sector is shifting towards urban agriculture development. That’s reason why the town’s agricultural production activities have been narrowed while the number of careers relating to this sector and outstanding farmers herein is on rise.
Outstanding farmers
Di An town’s total farming land is now 213.3 hectares, including 15 hectares for aquaculture. The town has so far completed harvest for the winter-spring crop and now prepares for the summer-autumn crop. Regarding animal husbandry, the whole town has a total of 920 cows and buffaloes, 17,347 pigs and 43,743 fowls.
In the first half of the year, 3,529 members of the local Farmers’
Society registered for the title “good farmer in production and business”.
There were also 14 members sorted out to attend a conference reviewing the
province’s emulation movement of “Good farmer in production and business”… 
The orchid-growing model in Di An town
Many outstanding farmers have also been discovered from the emulation movement of “Good farmer in production and business”. For example, farmer Hoang Ve Lan in Tan Dong Hiep ward is very successful with the orchid-growing model of; Nguyen Thanh Sinh in Binh Thang ward with the cricket-breeding model; Nguyen Khanh Hung in Tan Dong Hiep ward with the porcupine-breeding model…
In addition, the local Farmers’ Society teamed up with the local Plant Protection Station to open classes on how to grow vegetable sprouts and ornamental trees with the participation of 120 members; cooperated with many other relevant agencies to map up a plan on vocational training for farmers; further coordinated with the local Bank for Social Policies to disburse VND437,5mln in loan for members.
Farmers’ emulation movement promoted
Di An town’s Farmers’ Society will further promote the movement of “Farmers helping each other escape poverty and get rich”, according to society chairman Nguyen Truong Khanh.
Apartedly, the local Farmers’ Society will join hands with relevant agencies to well organize the transfer of sci-tech advancements in animal husbandry and cultivation for farmers; strive to have 100% of farmer households registering for the title “Good farmer in production and business”, over 50% of which will win the title by the end of 2012.
The local Farmers’ Society will also attach special importance to capital disbursement, employment introduction and vocational training for members; coordinate with functional agencies to well realize the local program on hunger eradication and poverty reduction…
