With its available potentials and advantages, after 15 years of re-establishment, Di An town has become a locality gaining a rapid growth pace in Binh Duong province. However, under impacts of economic recession and high inflation, the town businesses’ production and business have encountered many difficulties. In the face of the situation, the town authority has timely set out measures to maintain economic growth rate and stable development.

Ensuring economic growth pace
Dang Minh Hung, chairman of the town People’s Committee, said Di An town economy has yet to be developed firmly and remains many challenges. Under bad influences of high inflation and economic recession, some local enterprises have yet to fulfill allowances for laborers. This triggers collective labor disputes, strikes and go-slows…, impacting badly on production and business and social order.
In 2011 alone, the town occurred 68 strikes and go-slows (up 34 cases from the previous year) at 52 foreign businesses and 16 local companies. The main reason was to requirements relating to wage increase, subsidy increase and improvement of quality of meals. Accordingly, the town People’s Committee in cooperation with the provincial functional agencies solved the situation amicably. In addition, environmental pollution also caused difficulties in developing local economy.
The town authority has therefore set out many measures to develop local economy stably and sustainably. “To gain over VND42tril in industrial production value, the locality has encouraged local businesses to renovate technology and pay attention to auxiliary industrial development”, Hung added.
To solve local environmental pollution, the local authority has reinforced measures such inspections and settlements as well as promulgations and mobilizations to violators.
In the past year, the local authority issued 34 fine decisions relating to environmental pollution with the total value of nearly VND300mil and asked the provincial People’s Committee to issue a decision on forcing 12 production workshops causing pollution out of residential areas…
In addition, the town has positively launched plans on small and medium businesses development, collective economic development for the 2011-2015 period.
Basic construction progress hastened
According to a 5-year report, the town implemented 53 works, 39 of which were put into use with the total value of over VND800bil. Besides, the locality opened socialization works such markets, trade centers, rural roads and so on. In the past year, the town completed 9 works and opened 5 new ones.
Though gaining many results of basic construction, the town is in difficulties in site clearance and compensation, land management and so on.
To improve the shortcomings, the town authority has spurred the State management and solved illegal house building, revoked licenses of pending projects.
Additionally, the locality has accelerated local urbanization pace by spurring progress of site clearance and compensation and basic construction projects. Especially, the locality has steered, managed and excelled the town party committee’s breakthrough program on urban development for the 2011-2015 period and vision till 2020.
