Diversified import-export forms

Many exporting businesses have reported receiving new orders since the beginning of 2024. However, it is predicted that there will still be many difficulties and challenges in the province's import-export activities in the near future. Alongside practical and flexible support from the government, businesses are also taking advantage of opportunities and expanding their methods of transporting goods through various means to facilitate quick and cost-effective operations.

The advantage of railroad transportation

According to the Binh Duong Customs Department, there are currently around 3,483 businesses engaged in regular import and export activities in the province, ranking fourth nationwide. The main export items include wood and wood products, textiles, machinery, and equipment. The province's transportation infrastructure supporting import and export activities is relatively well-developed and modern, connecting with major seaports through a comprehensive road and international river port system (Binh Duong General Port).

With the advantages of fast transportation, low cost, and easy connectivity, countries are all focusing on developing railways to serve economic development. Taking advantage of the favorable geographical location, and with the presence of the Sóng Thần international intermodal terminal - the largest cargo terminal in the South, Binh Duong is enhancing its capacity and leveraging its potential to serve international intermodal transportation of goods.

Recently, Vietnam Railway Corporation, in collaboration with Binh Duong Customs Department, organized a conference to promote import-export activities through the international intermodal terminal for 150 import-export enterprises in the province. Prior to that, the two entities also held a ceremony to introduce the international intermodal train for transporting export goods from Song Than station to China. After more than 3 months of operation, this new method of export and import has proven to be more effective, safer, cost-saving, and easily accessible to industrial centers, manufacturing goods, and auxiliary materials in China and third countries.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of the Customs Department in Binh Duong province, the Sóng Thần International Intermodal Terminal is attracting the attention of many businesses due to its advantages of fast transportation, low cost, and easy connectivity. Promoting the import and export of goods through the Sóng Thần International Intermodal Terminal provides businesses with an additional transportation method, cost reduction, shortened delivery time, and ensured safety. In addition, direct transportation across borders eliminates congestion at customs checkpoints, unlike road transportation in recent times, especially for perishable goods that require short storage time and quick transportation.

Competitiveness enhanced

According to the report on the Provincial Logistics Competitiveness Index (LCI) for 2022, conducted for the first time in Vietnam over a period of more than a year, from August 2022 to November 2023, Binh Duong ranked third. LCI is an index that measures and evaluates the speed of development, quality, infrastructure, and policies of provincial governments in the logistics service industry.

Binh Duong is currently one of the most dynamic and developed localities in the southern region and the whole country, with the establishment and development of 33 industrial parks and 12 industrial clusters closely linked to attracting businesses, especially FDI enterprises. By 2023, the province's total import-export turnover will rank fourth nationwide. This advantage has created favorable conditions for the development of logistics service businesses in Binh Duong, both in terms of quantity and quality. The warehouse, yard, and transportation system are continuously invested in, expanded, upgraded, and fundamentally meet the requirements for the circulation of goods domestically and internationally for businesses in the province.

To ensure the proper development of the logistics industry in line with its potential and strengths, Binh Duong province is making efforts to implement various solutions. Specifically, the province is focusing on investing in key transportation routes, upgrading inland ports, railways, warehouse systems, and yards. All of these are being planned and developed in a rational manner, with the ability to connect with seaports, river ports, train stations, and international airports in the region to ensure smooth movement of goods and favorable logistics operations.

Mr. Nguyen Van Danh, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, stated that Binh Duong is vigorously implementing and closely following the Provincial Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050, in order to align with the national overall plan and cater to the development of the logistics service industry, while also enhancing investment attraction. Binh Duong is actively focusing on the development of railways, roads, and waterways within its territory, aiming to connect with key national infrastructure facilities in the region.
