Brave thinking

Dung bo cau makes us surprised by his simple, enthusiastic and comfortable characters. If without introduction of Phan Van Nhan, chairman of Vinh Phu ward Farmers’ Society, we could not image of the boss who possesses nearly 20 pigeon farms located at 6 provinces and cities and 4 restaurants in Binh Duong and Ba Rai-Vung Tau provinces.

To reach today achievements, Dung bo cau was used to face numerous difficulties. “In 1944, at the age of 17, I worked as a waiter. Realizing high profit of trading piglets, I asked for capital from my relatives to invest in breeding piglets. Believing in son, my parents withdrew all their saving money to purchase 50 breeding pigs. In the meantime, I enjoyed consultancy from relatives to create piglet herds. Therefore, I paid the initial loan for my parents in a short time”, Dung told.

“At that time, witnessing restaurant where I worked for received piglets from breeders, I was very excited. I thought how to do this model of breeding piglets”, Dung added.

However, after several years of breeding piglets, Dung followed advice of the restaurant boss to raise pigeon for business. Without experiences of breeding pigeon, so he faced failures right in the first period. Dung shared “in 2000 I determined to involve in breeding commercial pigeon because I thought that I would reach success like piglet breeding. With the amount of saving money but not enough for breeding pigeon, I again persuaded my parents to mortgage a land lot for a VND500 loan. However, owing to shortage of experience, the entire of breeding pigeons did not meet restaurant owners’ requirements, so he encountered a loss again”.

He continued his story that after that failure, he was very bored and disappointed. Amid disappointment, a cousin of Dung gave him an advice of continuing to pursue pigeon breeding. Enjoying assistance on capital and technique of taking care of pigeon, Dung continued to foster the work.

Success on technology application

In 2007, thanks to grasping technique of taking care of pigeon, Dung expanded his scope. Besides, he applied technical science into breeding pigeon. He arrived in Thailand and the EU to learn more about French breed pigeon’s characters and technology application for high efficiency.

Afterwards, he invested in cages and farms to start this job again. At present, Duung has raised 500 commercial pigeon couples and about 1,000 French breed pigeon couples in Binh Duong. It takes about 28 days to breed these varieties of pigeon. Commercial pigeon is priced at VND140,000 per couple while breeding pigeon is sold at VND100,000 per couple. French breed pigeon alone is priced at VND100,000 per couple for commercial products and VND200,000 per couple for breeding. Dung revealed, his products are offered for markets of Binh Duong and HCMC.

Thanks to the success, he is budded Dung bo cau. Aside from Binh Duong and HCMC, he has 3 restaurants in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province with the scale of more than 2,000 breeding pigeon couples. Meanwhile, he orders commercial pigeons from pigeon farms in the South central provinces, so he monthly collects 3,000-5,000 couples for trading.

Apart from breeding pigeon, Dung involves in 200 meat pigs and about 500 farm-raised chickens to meet diners’ demand at his restaurants. As such, he enjoys an income of hundreds of millions of dong per year from breeding pigeon.

Sharing his experiences of breeding pigeon, he revealed, the most important thing lies in self-study, especially technology application.

Dung bo cau shared that arriving at remote and rural areas, he witnesses difficult life of farmers, so he wishes to help them raise pigeons for improving income.

“I want to bring a “fishing rod” for needy people to help them enjoy a more stable life. Therefore, I am willing to purchase all commercial pigeon products from farmers plus offer a 50% discount for breeding pigeon and farm building. In order to breed this kind of animal successfully, I will offer instructions of building cages and technique for breeders in a month”. Dung added.
