Along having a thorough grasp of techniques in production plus passion, Duong Van Minh in Bach Dang commune’s Dieu Hoa hamlet in Tan Uyen district has successfully developed the pomelo-growing model. Also with the success, Minh is called “the king of Bach Dang pomelo”.

in Tan Uyen district, Duong Van Minh did not got involved in farm doing.
Although his family possessed a large area for pomelo growing, he moved to many
localities to do business after holding a degree of forestry engineer.

In 2000, Minh officially returned to his village to further develop his family’s pomelo-growing model in accordance with his father’s aspiration. Although having valuable experience from his father, Minh faced a lot of difficulties in the initial period when getting involved in this agricultural model.
Realizing that sci-tech application in agricultural production is very important, Minh has made efforts to develop his pomelo garden based on sci-tech advancements. With his efforts and passion for this kind of tree, Chinh has made success and been recognized as the “king of Bach Dang pomelo” in Tan Uyen district’s Bach Dang commune.
Learning how to do farming
According to Minh, pomelo growing is one of Vietnamese farmers’ traditional skills, so experience from ancestors is very precious. More importantly, application of experience in this model needs to be properly implemented for good results.
After 10 year-attachment with pomelo, Minh has become a competent farmer for this kind of tree. His family now possesses a pomelo garden that is always verdant with stable productivity. On average, Minh secures an annual income of between VND500mln and VND600mln from his family’s one-ha pomelo garden.
Noticeably, Minh can generate out-of-season pomelos at the market demand. To achieve the current success, he has made efforts in applying sci-tech advancements in production, including a mobile water-spraying system, a pesticide-spraying machine…
Farmers also need to research and study in agricultural production for high productivity, according to Minh. His key to success is how to properly apply lessons learnt in production. He is also ready to share experience with those who want to get involved in the model.
