Along with the economic development mission, Binh Duong province has paid much attention to environmental protection. Many projects and plans on environmental protection have been implemented by the province in the fast-growing industrial and urban context.
Water source protection
Recently, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment has checked and accepted the results of the project of "Listing of water protection corridors in Binh Duong province". During the project, the Provincial Monitoring Center carried out data synthesis and internal and external work to meet the set objectives and targets. The Center has synthesized, processed, analyzed and assessed the outstanding issues related to the current state of the water sources, the status of the associated resource values, the status of socio-economic development along the sources, and water of rivers, streams, and canals (according to specific river system).
According to Ngo Quang Su, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the project has determined the value, importance and development orientation of water resources for economic development and socio-cultural stabilization and ecological landscape for determining the function of water resources in each section of rivers in the province. The project has also been selected with water sources to establish protection corridors covering 98 rivers, streams, canals, and eight lakes.

Based on the obtained results, the provincial Monitoring Center has proposed concrete plans for planting landmarks in each stage in the province after the provincial People's Committee approved the specific plans. It can be said that this project demonstrates the determination of the environmental sector in enhancing the protection of water resources and ensuring the sustainable development in line with the policy of the province.
the project of "Listing of water protection corridors in Binh Duong province" is also highly appreciated by local business community. Vuong Sieu Tin, Director of Du Long Ceramic Company, stressed on the importance of natural water resources and the protection for the next generations.
According to Luu Ngoc Kim, Director of Kim Thanh A Wood Company, protection of water resources in the system of rivers and canals is very necessary for the landscape a healthy living environment for the canal residential areas. The above scheme would help Binh Duong better control the environment. Importantly, the scheme also helps businesses become more aware of their responsibilities to the community.
Contributing to a smart city
Nguyen Hong Nguyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said that towards the construction of Binh Duong as a smart city, the province has built Binh Duong Smart City Project and approved by the provincial People's Committee Decision No. 3206/QDUBND dated November 21, 2016. According to this project, eight key points determining the intelligence of a city include government, urban planning, public safety, public health, education, transportation, energy, water and environment. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has drafted the implementation of Binh Duong Smart City project in the field of environment. The program targets to the use of information technology, communication and other means to connect citizens, enterprises with the government to build and process data and generate information and knowledge to support.
According to Nguyen, ‘smart city’ is a wide concept which can be interpreted as a place of creativity and technologies to bring benefits to the public and enterprises in livable and workable place where environment factors are the key.
The program is initiated and implemented by Department of Natural Resources and Environment focusing on 8 contents of construction.
“Many works to be done, the on-going construction of Binh Duong smart city has been established along with environment protection efforts, effectively contributing to the general targets,” affirmed Nguyen.
