Thanks to the model on growing Taiwan’s seedless guavas, many farming households in Bau Bang district’s Tru Van Tho commune have risen up out of poverty and enriched themselves. The high economic efficiency of the model has came from the linkage between State agencies, farmers, scientists and entrepreneurs.
Bringing annual income to farmers
The household of Nguyen Thi Be is one of typical households in rising up out of poverty and getting rich from growing Taiwan’s seedless guavas in Ben Cat town’s Tru Van Tho commune.
In 2011, her family begun getting involved in this model with more than 2,000 sq.m. After eight months later, her family’s guavas orchard generated around 300 kg of guavas a day with the selling price of around VND13,000 a kg. The total area of her family’s guavas orchard has so far reached 8,000 sq.m, bringing stable income.

Le Thi Truc Huynh, a staff of the Scientific and Technological Application Center under provincial Department of Science and Technology, who is also Chief of the project on sci-tech application in intensive farming for Taiwan’s seedless guavas in Tru Van Tho commune said that many gauva-growing households in the commune have successfully developed this model.
Since 2013, the project on sci-tech application in intensive farming for Taiwan’s seedless guavas has been implemented to assist the local farmers to shift the local agricultural structure towards a modern and competitive agriculture with high added values. From this point of view, the center has joined hands with Chang Dinh Huy One-Member Co.Ltd. to realize this project till 2015. So far, there have been 6 Taiwan’s seedless guavas-growing households under the project with a total area of 53 hectares. Most of them have earned high income from this kind of fruit.
Building up a trademark of guava
The linkage between State agencies, farmers, scientists and entrepreneurs is the key to develop a modern agriculture. Realizing this, provincial Scientific and Technological Application Center has made and reached an initial success from the model on growing Taiwan’s seedless guavas, contributing to supporting the local farmers to apply sci-tech advancements in agricultural production for better results.
Nguyen The Cuong, Deputy Director of the center said that the center has teamed up with Chang Dinh Huy One-Member Co.Ltd. to implement the project at the local farmers’demand in changing into a variety of high-quality fruit with high economic efficiency. But now, the company’s output of Taiwan’s seedless guavas does not meet market’s demand. That’s reason why the company would like to further link with farmers to build up a large-scale area specialized in growing Taiwan’s seedless guavas for better development for this kind of fruit.
Under the project, the local farmers are supported 100% of cost on variety and 300% of cost on essential materials like fertilizer, plastic bags…“We would like to set up a cooperative group on fruit trees in Tru Van Tho commune, supporting the local farmers to build up a fruit trademark so that the local farmers can stabilize the quality of their products. Our biggest desire is to sign contacts with units to stabilize consumption market”, said Mr.Cuong.
