In previous years, family of Mrs. Tran Thi Khien residing at Chanh My Ward in Thu Dau Mot City has been one of the poor families in the locality. Thanks to local authority help, they have emerged as a family of good earnings from combined husbandry.
In 1972, Khien got married. The only properties left to her from her parents were a makeshift house and 2,000 square meters of land. To make ends meet, she had to join manual work without funds for production on the land. On giving birth to her children, her life was darkened with troubles. In 1992, her husband left her with her 7 children.

In such situation, Chanh My Ward Association of Farmers offered her a loan of VND 30 million to do household business. Being funded, she bought goats for rearing while making use of water surface to rear fish and plant water-lilies to increase income. Then, the association offered more support regarding the fish breads as well as guides of husbandry and planting technique.
Initially, Khien reared two breeding goats which have produced two other goat cubs within 1 month. By now, she had a goat herd of 150. Khien asserted that rearing goats can yield more benefits as foods for goats are of low-cost and easy to be found leaves, grasses and available food sources. Averagely every 4 months, a goat may reproduce 1 to 3 cubs. Every year, Khien can sell up to 60 goat cubs to earn about VND 120 million.
Aside from the goats for sales, Khien also earns from the 5,000 square meter fish pond at VND 60 million a year and water-lilies of VND 200,000 a day.
By diligent and hard-working, her family members, under support of funds and husbandry technique, the combined husbandry have helped Khien escape poverty and get rich. Having stable economic status, Khien has more time for her children. She said: “Thanks to great help of local authority, I can improve family life. For the time to come, we will invest into production and husbandry to have better accommodation.”
