Farmer in Bach Dang commune is watering for vegetable garden.
Binh Duong provincial agricultural industry has focused on ensuring water source for agricultural production in dry season.
Synchronous investment
Across agricultural production areas in the province, irrigation system has been invested synchronously with 45 irrigation works and water pumping stations with the total design capacity of watering for more than 6,500ha. Over the past years, pumping stations and irrigation system have showed their function of adjusting water source for agricultural production. Accordingly, 100% of rice growing area (16,800ha) and short-term trees have been supplied enough water.
Tran Trong Du, vice chairman of Bach Dang commune People’s Committee in Tan Uyen town said that the commune now has 3 water pumping stations including Tan Hoa, Tan Long and Tan An in service for 190ha. The three pumping stations always ensure their good operation in cultivation seasons.
In reality, many agricultural production areas nationwide have not enough water for cultivation, especially in dry season. Meanwhile, local agricultural production areas enjoy enough water for farming.
Duong Van Hung, farmer in Bach Dang commune shared “I was born in the locality and have attached my life to paddy fields for many years. I realize that local irrigation system ensure water source for cultivation. Therefore, my 4,200sqm cultivation area gains stable capacity every year”.
Planting proper kinds of trees in dry season
Le Phuoc Thanh, vice head of Irrigation Bureau unde the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that water level at local reservoirs declines sharply, so the bureau in cooperation with the local station of agricultural irrigation counsels farmers to plant short-term trees. Meanwhile, Dau Tieng district often lacks of water, so local farmers shift to grow perennial trees such as rubber and cashew.
To ensure water for dry season, water resource management units have cooperated with localities to announce water source for local farmers to help them apply proper cultivation methods.
Local irrigation system has been invested synchronously, helping farmers assure farming and breeding and increase income. However, local farmers should be aware of saving water as well as spurring canal dredging to surge water source.
