At this transitional time between the dry and rainy seasons, the risk of electrical grid incidents increases. State agencies, offices, production units and residents are advised to use electricity safely, economically and efficiently to minimize the risk of local grid overloads and electrical incidents while also helping customers save on electricity costs.
Minimizing risks of electrical incidents
According to leaders of Binh Duong Power Company, electricity demand in the province has increased since early this year, especially for industrial production. Grid-related incidents have decreased and indicators for online electricity services have shown positive results.

According to provincial Department of Industry and Trade, the province’s industrial production index rose by 9% in the first four months of 2025, indicating a significant rise in electricity consumption for production activities. Additionally, hot weather has increased residential electricity usage. Nguyen Truong Thi, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Industry and Trade noted that the electricity sector has ensured a continuous supply for both residential and business needs. Binh Duong Power Company has proactively implemented stable power supply plans, resulting in a significant decrease in grid-related incidents compared to the same period in 2024. Reliability indicators (SAIDI, SAIFI) have also improved year-on-year.
To reduce the risk of local grid overloads and potential incidents during seasonal transitions and to enhance the reliability of the power system, authorities, businesses, and residents are strongly advised to apply power-saving and safety measures. These include turning off unused electrical devices, using high-efficiency appliances, setting air conditioners above 26°C and changing habits to limit unnecessary usage. These solutions not only help customers reduce electricity costs and ease the pressure on the power supply system, but also minimize the risk of electrical incidents, contributing to the stable, safe and efficient operation of the power grid.
Putting many power projects into operation
During the recent April 30 holiday, the Southern Power Corporation (EVN SPC) officially completed 50 110kV power grid projects in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification as well as 50 years of EVN SPC development (April 30,1975 – April 30, 2025).
One of the key projects put into operation is the Kien Dien Substation (located in Ben Cat city’s An Dien ward) with the installation of a second transformer (T2) with the capacity of 63MVA, increasing the station’s total capacity to 2x63MVA. With total investment of over VND 36.5 billion, the project helps reduce the load on T1 at the 110kV Ascendas Substation (Kien Dien) as well as on the existing 110kV An Tay Substation. It ensures safe, continuous electricity supply and enhances N-1 operational reliability. The project also enables a 22kV ring circuit connection between Ascendas and An Tay substations, allowing for reciprocal support during equipment maintenance. Moreover, it supports future load growth in industrial parks like Protrade International, Viet Huong 2 and along route DT744.
The project to upgrade the 110kV Thuan An – VSIP II transmission line into a double-circuit line, with the length of 2.42km and total investment of over VND 29.9 billion, contributes to enhancing the power transmission capacity of the existing 110kV line, meeting the increasing power demand of the area. It also strengthens the loop connection between the 220kV Binh Hoa and 220kV Thuan An substations, improving the reliability of electricity supply for the 110kV substations in the region and ensuring operation according to the N-1 standard. Meanwhile, the project to upgrade the 110kV Thoi An substation by adding a second transformer (T2) with the capacity of 63 MVA, with total investment of over VND 37 billion, ensures sufficient power supply for Ben Cat city.
Meanwhile, the 110kV Thoi An Substation has been upgraded with a second transformer (T2, 1x63MVA) at a cost of more than VND 37 billion to ensure power supply for Ben Cat city. Tu Minh Viet, Deputy Director of the Southern Power Grid Project Management Board stated that commissioning T2 helps reduce load on the existing Thoi An Substation and meets N-1 reliability standards for My Phuoc Industrial Parks 1 through 4 and Thoi Hoa urban area. The project also facilitates 22kV grid interconnection with Thoi An, My Hoa and Ben Cat substations, ensuring flexible supply during maintenance and contributing to Binh Duong’s economic and social development.
The completion of 50 110kV grid projects by EVNSPC on April 30 symbolizes the corporation’s 50-year journey accompanying the development of Southern Vietnam. It affirms EVNSPC’s pivotal role in fulfilling the mission of “Electricity leading the way” serving the socio-economic development and the daily life of people across 21 southern provinces and cities, including Binh Duong. |
