Veterinary staff confiscates poultry illegally slaughtered in Thuan An town.
On the days near Tet holiday, demand on trading cattle and poultry increases sharply as well as demand on foodstuff made from poultry and cattle jumps along. This is also a good opportunity for smugglers, fake product makers and wrongdoers. Facing this situation, the provincial Veterinary Bureau launched many inspection measures to ensure quality of food.
A close inspection
With support policies of breeding, the total herd of poultry and cattle has constantly increased over the past years. Till 2014, the province had nearly 500,000 pigs, more than 6 million of poultry and over 116,000 tons of pork and over 112 million of eggs. The abundant source of cattle and poultry met consumption demand of the local people. Besides, models of breeding in Binh Duong province are applied high technology to ensure quality of cattle and poultry products.
In order to ensure regulation, safety and quality of poultry and cattle products in the coming Tet holiday, Tran Phu Cuong, vice head of the provincial veterinary bureau said that the bureau set up teams to inspect food hygiene and safety at slaughtering houses and business locations of egg, poultry and cattle products and more.
Especially, at the slaughtering houses, the bureau steered veterinary staff to spur inspection of origin of poultry and cattle. In addition, the bureau asked veterinary staff to ensure regulations of slaughtering of poultry and cattle.
The bureau also accelerates inspections on sterilization at breeding farms and inspection posts around the clock. Simultaneously, the bureau at all levels strengthens control of disease epidemics across localities and areas to timely solve and ensure work on disease epidemic control.
Well assistance of sectors
According to functional agencies, once demand on poultry and cattle trade increases, operation of illegal slaughtering also jumps along. It is difficult to drastically solve illegal slaughtering. In addition, shortage of veterinary staff at grassroot level triggers difficulties in controlling slaughtering and quarantine.
Cuong added that the local veterinary sector hopes to receive assistance and helping from functional forces and authorities. “Aside from control operation of veterinary forces, local people should pay more attention to origin of poultry and cattle product to protect their health”, Cuong added.
