Ensuring supply of goods for the end of the year

According to the direction of provincial People's Committee, Department of Industry and Trade have coordinated with localities and enterprises to ensure goods sources at the needs of goods, electricity and gasoline supplies, especially during the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival 2024; promote trade promotion activities, support enterprises in connecting trade and expanding markets.

According to Phan Thi Khanh Duyen, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Industry and Trade, in 2023, the market has had many fluctuations, leading to an increase in the price of many input materials, which continues causing challenges for product prices. Therefore, the prices of many goods and services remain high and put pressure on personal spending.

To stabilize the market situation in 2024, the industry and trade sector has advised provincial People's Committee on realizing a program to stabilize the market and reserve goods during Tet and great holidays with the goal of ensuring a sufficient supply of food and raw materials. Essential materials are always guaranteed. Commodity prices are stable, without major fluctuations, well meeting the production needs of businesses and people's lives. Mrs. Duyen said: "By the end of 2023, many commercial and service activities will grow again. The province’s total retail sales revenue of goods and services in 2023 was estimated at more than VND 303.85 trillion, an increase of 13.5% compared to the previous year. In 2024, the province's plan to stabilize the market with a total value of reserved goods is about over VND 11.6 trillion (excluding gasoline and medicine). Before, during and after the 2024 Tet festival, the figure is more than  VND 2.25 trillion".

Mrs. Duyen added that provincial People's Committee has directed departments, localities and businesses to join hands in stabilizing the commodity market. Enterprises have committed to ensuring product quality, food safety and compliance with registered prices. To ensure a flexible and even distribution, mobile and stable sales points will be organized in districts, towns, cities, industrial parks and residential areas.

According to Vo Chi Thanh, Vice-Chairman of Thu Dau Mot city’s People's Committee, the city has chaired a meeting to approve a plan to stockpile essential goods, arrange the order of business at markets and arrange temporary sales points to serve the 2024 Tet festival. Accordingly, the city has organized reserves of essential goods from the date of issuance of the plan until December 31, 2023, focusing on the period before, during and after the 2024 Tet festival. Essential products at markets serving the people before, during and after Tet include food, fresh food, foodstuffs, processed food... The city will also coordinate and support units participating in the market stabilization program, stockpiling essential goods in 2024 and on Tet in the province. In addition, the city will organize inspection tours and arrange the order of business at markets, focusing on inspections of goods, business services, measuring instruments, fire prevention and fighting, security-order, environmental sanitation and food safety.

Strengthening market control

Leaders of Thu Dau Mot city’s People's Committee said that along with efforts to stabilize the prices of essential goods, ensuring the supply of goods to serve people’s shopping needs during the 2024 Tet festival, the city has also planned to organize activities to create a buying and selling atmosphere and act as a bridge between farmers and consumers of agricultural products such as fruits, ornamental plants, ornamental flowers... during the 2024 Tet festival; arrange the order of business, ensure security-order, environmental sanitation and commercial civilization at markets to better serve the shopping needs of the people during the 2024 Tet festival.

Huynh Van Loi, Vice-Chairman of Tan Uyen city’s People's Committee, Head of the city’s Steering Committee 389 said that the city’s Steering Committee 389 is focusing on directing sectors, functional units and localities to prepare for providing enough sources of consumer goods to ensure quality and safety for the people before, during and after the 2024 Tet festival; proactively strengthen forces, means, measures, inspect, control and handle acts of storing, transporting and trading in counterfeit, fake, and smuggled goods..., especially essential ones for production and consumption during Tet. The Steering Committee has also directed units, functional forces and local authorities at all levels to firmly grasp the situation, strengthen inspection and control of the area, prevent the emergence of warehouses, yards and transit points for smuggled, counterfeit, poor quality goods, intellectual property violations and activities that take advantage of the e-commerce environment for trade fraud.

“We are drafting a plan to request agencies, members of the Steering Committee and People's Committees of communes and wards, to proactively set up specific plans for their sectors and localities to implement 2024’s tasks with high efficiency, resolutely not allowing hot spots for trade fraud to occur, which is based on assigned functions and tasks", Mr. Loi said.

Thu Dau Mot city plans to arrange temporary sales points to serve the 2024 Tet festival, including 14 sales points with 311 squares, with expected operating time from January 25 to 12:00 on February 9 (December 15 to 12 o'clock on December 30 of the lunar calendar).
