As a locality of active industrial development of the nation, Binh Duong is not trading environment for development. In years, environment protection has been promoted in the province aiming for sustainable development targets.
Great investment into environment protection
Upholding environment protection as assurance for sustainable development, Binh Duong Province has combined environment protection with strategies and planning of socio-economic development of the province. Specifically, the general planning for socio-economic development of the province until 2025, planning for urban construction in Binh Duong until 2025 with vision to 2030, land-use planning of Binh Duong Province until 2020, planning for 5-year term of 2016-2020 socio-economic development and public investments, and so on have been combined with environment protection. Besides, Binh Duong has constructed specialized planning including general planning for management and processing of solid wastes until 2030, planning for surveying and exploiting minerals in 2016-2020 with vision to 2030, planning for water resources in 2016-2025, and so on. This is the affirmative notion of Binh Duong province for sustainable development not trading for environment impact.

According to Nguyen Hong Nguyen, Deputy Director of Natural Resources and Environment, Binh Duong province has implemented 14 major projects on environment protection including the project of purchasing equipment servicing the response to fires and explosion, medical waste treatment until 2020 with vision to 2025, investments into equipment to service environment surveillance in the stage 1, project for water environment improvement in the South of Binh Duong, etc. Total investments to the projects is about VND 13,226 billion of which VND 7,619 billion is sourced by ODA. This is the largest investments of Binh Duong province ever since for environment protection.
Environment protection projects effectuated
Currently, Department of Natural Resources and Environment and related units have accelerated the progress of the project of water release and wastewater treatment under environment protection plan of 2016-2020 including the construction and operation of urban wastewater treatment plant of Di An Town and the project of increasing capacity of Thu Dau Mot wastewater treatment plant from 17,500 cubic meters a day to 32,000 cubic meters a day. The Department has also promoted the connection of wastewater system from families in Thu Dau Mot and Thuan An, the project of water release and wastewater treatment in Di An-Thuan An-Tan Uyen, Chom Sao-Suoi Don wastewater treatment system while concentrating on remedying pollution in the areas.
He informed that the Department has various duties to implement aiming for environment development and sustainable development assurance. For the year, Department of Natural Resources and Environment shall construct and issue regulations on waste releasing regions of water drains in the locality along with implementing of investment portfolios for regions and locations of possible environment pollution and incidents. Concurrently, the province shall implement regulations on business and production lines to limit project of out-of-date technologies and of plentiful wastewater impacting the environment. The Department shall also strictly carry out the prohibition on mine and water tapping in sensitive areas.
It is visible that the investments into environment protection has been mounted to tens of billions of Vietnam dongs in a bid to construct a modern and environment-friendly city out of Binh Duong Province. To fulfill such tasks, according to experts, the joint efforts of the people strata and enterprises in the province are needed.
