According to the provincial Finance Department, the local CPI in October rose 0.2% compared to the previous month. Of this, group of food and service increased 0.62%; beverage and tobacco decreased 0.31%; housing, electricity, water, energy and building materials reduced 0.47%; group of traffic declined 0.23%; household equipment and utensil jumped 0.07% and other goods and service increased 0.2% and many more.
Though prices of essential items increased and reduced at various levels, the market price is relatively stabilized. The main reason lies in assurance on goods distribution channel.
The market price is expected to be stabilized from now till the end of the 1st quarter of 2014. At Co.opMart Binh Duong, November is the time of serving for customers so the quantity of goods at the supermarket will increase from 20-30% from the past year but prices of items will have little changes. Co.opMart director Vo Huu Thach said that price of items at the supermarket is very stabled.
The stability on price is also similar at other supermarkets and trade centers and traditional markets. According to some small traders at Thu Dau Mot market, price of some items remains stable until now.
Mrs.Nga, the owner of a confectionary on Nguyen Thai Hoc road, Phu Cuong ward said “price of item of confectionary will likely increase about 5% on the days near Tet whilst other items’ price will not jump”. Mrs. Linh, the owner of clothing shop at Thu Dau Mot Department Store said that price of some items in the year-end only rises several thousand of dong, owing to increase in purchasing power. In the other hand, owners of shops dare not increase price because they are afraid of losing clients.
Over the past months, work on market management has been prepared urgently. Companies’ proactive production and goods reserve in service for market demand in the year-end plus the recent decrease of petrol price are advantaged factors helping the market goods be stabilized. However, owing to impacts of natural calamities and disease epidemics, breeders decrease their production, this causes a light scarcity of fresh and live commodities. At present, price of pork has increased at VND45,000-48,000 per kg.
However, according to the provincial Veterinary Bureau vice head Ta Trong Khang, local breeding farms have increased about 10% of the total pig herd from the previous months to cater for the upcoming Lunar New Year.
