- Lai Uyen urban area of Bau Bang district and Tan Thanh urban area of Bac Tan Uyen district were decided by the provincial People's Committee as a grade V in June 2017. Currently, these two projects have been approved by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and awaiting the resolution to establish Lai Uyen town and Tan Thanh townships.

The establishment of Lai Uyen and Tan Thanh townships is important in orienting urban development in the northern areas of Binh Duong, especially in newly established districts. - Pursuant to Article 9 of Resolution 1211/2016 / UBTVQH13 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on standards of administrative units and classification of administrative units, standards of townships must ensure the size of the population. with a population of 8,000 or more, a natural area of 14 km2 or more, the structure of socio-economic development level shall be in accordance with the provisions of Article 20 of Resolution 1211/2016 / UBTVQH13. Particularly, urban centers must be recognized as grade-IV or grade-V urban centers or planned townships which are classified according to the criteria of urban centers of grade IV or V.
Considering the 5 criteria for classifying urban areas according to Resolution No. 1210/2016 / UBTVQH13 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the above two urban centers are eligible for classification of grade V. However, Standards in five criteria have not reached or low, the local need to focus and investment plans to improve the quality of standards, such as: urban population density; the rate of urban wastewater treated up to technical standards; urban-level health facilities; Regulation on management of urban architecture planning and traffic density.

- Based on the regulations and master plans of the central government, the provincial People's Committee has approved the Urban Development Program of Binh Duong Province for 2016-2020 and the program for the development of provincial localities such as Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, Di An, Ben Cat, and Tan Uyen. The programs and projects on urban development and technical infrastructure have been implemented to improve the technical infrastructure, improve the quality of life of urban residents, Investment attraction, socio-economic development of the province. The upgrading and upgrading of urban centers has been carried out synchronously and basically according to the roadmap under the national urban development program, the provincial urban development program and the provincial urban development programs.
Up to now, according to the upgrading plan of the city, the province has 1 grade I city, Thu Dau Mot city, 4 grade III cities (of which 2 grade III cities under the province are Thuan An and TX. Di An has been recognized by the Ministry of Construction in 2017, 2 municipalities are Ben Cat Town and Tan Uyen Town. Recently, the Department of Construction has advised the provincial People's Committee to preliminarily review Program No. 22-CTr / TU to re-evaluate the contents of departments, units and localities for implementation and orientation in the coming time. Accordingly, in the coming time, departments, units and localities should pay attention to the following contents: Continue to classify eligible urban areas under the Urban Development Program for 2016-2020; In 2018 will review the status of urban compared to the regulations to adjust the urban development program of the province in accordance with the central regulations.
