Fake product fighting needs cooperation

Market control bureau’s cadres solve a case of fake gasoline business.

In the recent years, fake and poor quality products have appeared across local markets. However, little knows clearly about distinguishing between true and fake products. This influences not only on enterprises’ prestige but customers.

Enterprises should register brand name

According to Ngo Phuong Tra, expert of Intellectual Property Bureau at the HCMC, enterprises should register trademarks to affirm their intellectual property right in a bid to prevent fake and poor-quality products. Therefore, registering brand name is the first measure that enterprises must implement to protect trademark and fight against unhealthy competition from rivals.

Aside from registering brand name, protecting trademark, many businesses have applied various measures to fight against fake and poor-quality products by marking labels and stamps on their products. In reality, over 90% of products on the market are specified by this form. However, Nguyen Hieu Thuong, rep of Vina CHG JSC in the HCMC said that label and stamp have no legal character and secret protection and registration of intellectual property right, so stamp can be printed at any printers without protection and settlement in case of complaint. Therefore, appearance of label and stamp with words of fighting fake products only helps fake makers develop their products.

Cooperation for effective settlement

In order to minimize printing of fake stamp and label, many enterprises have used anti-fake product stamp on modern technology. In addition, cooperation between competent agencies and owners of intellectual property products should be strengthened constantly.

This is an important factor in fighting against fake and poor quality products.

Nguyen Thanh Danh, vice head of the provincial Market Control Bureau said that many fake products of clothes and footwear are sold on market publicly. However, there are no reps of owners of registered trademarks in Vietnam, so functional agencies can not arrest and solve.

Along with dissemination, registration of intellectual property protection right, enterprises need to instruct employees and agents and customers to know clearly about their products, patterns, label and stamp. This is considered as a long-term investment that enterprises should establish to make up a barrier against fake producers.
