Farmer Support Fund –lifebelt for poor farmers

With a goal of supporting farmers in production and life improvement and poverty escape, the Farmer Support Fund has timely solved difficulties of capital for farmers.

Poor farmers approach capital sources

Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung, vice chairwoman of the provincial Farmer Society, said the total fund is now at VND16.5bil, of which VND800mil is from central, VND10bil from provincial budget, VND700mil from localities.   Farmer Support Fund will help poor farmers expand production and escape poverty.

As of the end of Sept., the society assessed and disbursed VND5bil to offer loans for 456 farmer households. With a loan worth VND5-20mil depending on business models, local farmers have invested in animal husbandry, vegetable planting…

As a result, local farmers have improved their life and escaped poverty. Nguyen Van Sang, chairman of An Lap commune Farmer Society, said “In June, 2010, the society received VND500mil to launch a project of breeding cows”.

New image for the fund

However, many farmers have yet to understand purpose and significance of the fund. To improve this status, the provincial Farmer Society has built a project of “Renewal and improvement of the fund management for the 2011-2015 term”.

Till 2015, the farmer support fund will reach over VND50bil. The capital source will help poor farmers to improve their life. Possibly speaking, this is a lifebelt for poor farmers.
