After Tet holidays, farmers went back eagerly to their works in order to wish for a year full of success…
At agricultural areas like Tan Uyen, Phu Giao, farmers began
their field works in the third day afternoon of lunar New Year. Because of the
projection of vegetables demand increase, they attempted to water and fertilize
crops within holidays.
Mr. Nguyen Van
Tan turned soils and fertilized his okra fields.
Farmer Nguyen Van Tan living at Thanh Hoa hamlet, Thanh Hoi commune, Tan Uyen district told us that since he was planting okras, unless he watered it even on Tet holidays, it could not grow well, have good qualities and then dealers would refuse to buy. Many neighbors of Mr. Tan worked enthusiastically on the farms too. Not only in Thanh Hoi commune, but also in many localities farm crops are growing verdantly and on fruit bearing process, thus it is necessary for farmers to cultivate frequently their farm products.
To rubber tree raising farmers, scraping season ended earlier in this year than last year, so they could have complete Tet holidays. They tried to scrape rubber trees to take advantage of the last plentiful latex resource before Tet. Although the latex price in this year was lower than last year, dangerous tree pests and diseases did not appear. Hence, production increased and planters had higher income.
Nevertheless, farmers do not forget to look after their rubber trees, since this time is the beginning of the dry season, when it is easy to catch fire in the plantations. Mr. Nguyen Van Tho living at Tan Hiep commune, Phu Giao district said: “We had to hire leaf blowers to prevent fire before Tet. Although it was on Tet holidays, I had to visit my estate regularly to watch for incidents, especially fire. This is now also the changing season of leaflets, diseases happen easily such as pink disease, dusty white, Corynespora… Therefore, watching closely plantations helped us to have timely treatments”.
Last year, agricultural production of Binh Duong province won high earnings with important crops like rubber, pomelo, orange, mandarin etc. In the beginning of the year, farmers wish for less tree pests and diseases, stable output, high selling price so that they could have a better income in the New Year.
