Fourth industrial revolution: Taking full advantage of opportunities, restricting challenges

According to economic experts, the fourth industrial revolution will bring Vietnam’s economy both opportunities and changes. If knowing to take advantage of opportunities from the revolution, domestic enterprises will improve their competitiveness as well as building up a modern production system.

Opportunity to innovate production technologies

At a conference on the fourth industrial revolution and the application of Internet of Things (IoT) in smart manufacturing just held in HCM city, Dao Dinh Kha, Director of the Department of Information Technology under the Ministry of Information and Communications said that the fourth industrial revolution is a big opportunity for Vietnam to enjoy science-technology advancements from many other countries.

For businesses, the event will also help businesses improve their production technologies, creating new products and services. This is also an opportunity for them to develop, thereby enhancing Vietnamese economy’s competitiveness in order to reach a goal of industrialization and modernization.

Ly Ngoc Minh, General Director of Minh Long 1 Porcelain Co.Ltd. in Thuan An town said that his company has always attached special importance to its production technologies. With the fourth industrial revolution, the company will have more optimal conditions to continue effectively upholding its technical innovation in production for better development.

Whilst, Hua Thi Huan, Director of CAXE Environment and Heat Industry Co.Ltd. said with a goal of saving energy, minimizing environmental pollution and enhancing the quality of dryness, the company has applied technological innovations in manufacturing solar kilns. Through the fourth industrial revolution, the company will enjoy opportunities to get access to modern drying technologies from developed countries, helping businesses reduce their product price for better competitiveness in the current integration context.  The company has also innovated its equipment in line with new drying technologies.

Big challenges

The fourth industrial revolution is now a big trend with impacts on socio-economic development of all countries. This also makes domestic businesses to make more efforts in science and technology development, aiming to generate hi-quality products.

Tran Van Tung, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology stated that the fourth industrial revolution will create vigorous development for new technologies and robots. Accordingly, production ways of some industries that Vietnam is targeting in the coming time, with advantage of a low-cost unskilled workforce will be affected very greatly.

The development of science and technology may lead to the situation of mass unemployment as a large number of domestic workforce will be not able to change, due to not being adapting themselves to the new context opportunely.
