Di An city is known as the southern gateway of the province. With the dynamism of a young city, the goal of building Di An into a second-class city has come true. Di An city is striving to become a second-class city, so far, what has the city changed in urban development, sir?
- In March 2017, Di An town was recognized as a third-class city. In January 2020, the National Assembly Standing Committee issued the Resolution No. 857/NQ-UBTVQH14 establishing Di An city under Binh Duong province on the basis of the entire area and population of Di An town. In recent years, Di An city’s economy has developed continuously. The city’s value of industrial production increased by an average of 10.54%/year while the value of trade and services grew by an average of 36.4%. The city’s economic structure shifted towards trade-services, industry and agriculture.
In order to realize the goal of becoming a rich, beautiful and civilized city, Di An city’s Party and government has soon issued programs and plans with specific and appropriate targets, tasks and solutions. On that basis, the city has focused on mobilizing resources for investment in infrastructure construction and urban development, production development; promoted administrative reform; well performed cultural and social tasks... Looking back 5 years after being recognized as a third-class city, the city’s Party and government have always focused on comprehensively directing all fields to create breakthroughs in economic, cultural, social development and new urban appearance. The city’s urban infrastructure has got more spacious and modern with 100% of roads under the local management invested synchronously. The city’s economic - technical infrastructure has been step by step commensurate with urban development requirements. The city’s works on education, healthcare and culture and sports have been invested with commensurate scale to meet the needs of the people.
To obtain these results, the city has had right orientations in the effective use of resources for investment in infrastructure development and construction, gradually excelling at managing urban construction planning and urban development programs, making the image of a young city more vibrant and civilized, affirming its position as the driving force for the development of the southern region of the province.

- Yes, Di An city has now issued the socio-economic development plan for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. It is in the process of adjusting and supplementing the general planning of Di An urban area and zoning planning of wards to integrate into provincial planning. The city has also implemented and approved detailed planning for urban development areas, cultural-sports centers, residential and commercial areas. Urban planning must be one step ahead on the principle of ensuring the sustainable development of urban ecosystems, creating more green spaces, water surface and functional areas that must satisfy criteria on environmental quality and economic development.
Currently, Di An city’s technical and social infrastructure system has always received investment and construction in accordance with planning orientations, achieving many important results, creating conditions for trade-service and urban development..., contributing to maintaining the local national defense and security. Many transport infrastructure works are also being completed urgently. These works are creating a new face, playing a special role in removing traffic "knots", creating the foundation for the local development. External traffic routes, with regional connectivity and local economic development have been actively implemented under the plan, connecting with neighboring localities inside and outside the province, such as: DT743b, North-South road 3, East-West main axis, My Phuoc - Tan Van expressway, Northeast belt road 2, April 30 road, Song Than overpass intersection and the road from Song Than overpass connecting to Pham Van Dong street in Ho Chi Minh city…Especially, the Ho Chi Minh city belt road 3 with the section through Binh Duong province was also officially started...The city’s transport and logistics activities have developed strongly, connecting with neighboring localities at the general development needs.
- In order to complete its project on recognition of the second-class city, which criteria does Di An need to overcome?
- Di An has met most of the criteria of a second-class city, many key infrastructure projects have been invested in; there are many urban-residential areas, apartment buildings that have been focused on building and putting into operation to create the image of Di An urban area, promoting socio-economic development. However, there are still a few unsatisfactory criteria of second-class city that Di An city is trying to overcome, such as: Land for construction of public works; health facilities; the rate of roads in residential areas being illuminated; the rate of urban wastewater being treated to meet technical standards... But with the orientation of socio-economic development in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Di An city will form up many urban areas, complexes, high-rise apartment buildings, make conversion of land use functions of industrial zones into residential, commercial - service areas along with the development of education - training and healthcare…All these standards will be overcome as soon as possible.
- What is Di An city doing to soon be recognized as a second-class city and basically meet criteria of a second-class city by 2025?
- If comparing standards on grading regulations under the National Assembly Standing Committee’s Resolution 1210/2016/UBTVQH on the standards of administrative units and classification of administrative units, Di An city has basically met standards on second-class urban construction with 91.22 out of 100 points.
In order to soon successfully realize the goal of being recognized as a second-class city in 2022, basically meeting criteria of a second-class city by 2025 under the national urban development program towards a smart, civilized and modern city, Di An is making efforts to implement breakthrough programs of its Party Committee. Specifically, the city has promulgated the local plan on building, upgrading synchronous infrastructure facilities for urban development by 2030, with a vision to 2050 in association with socio-economic development plan in the period of 2021-2026; the plan to develop trade - high-quality services in association with industrial and urban development; the program to improve the quality of human resources… In order to realize this goal, the city continues focusing on mobilizing resources to invest in building urban infrastructure in order to bring it a spacious and modern image, serving economic development and improving people's living standards, contributing to creating a new position and force to promote the local development in the coming time.
