Going to the rural Tet market

Walking around the rural markets at this time, we feel the atmosphere that is busier than normal days. At the markets, diverse goods are arranged neatly and orderly to help consumers easily visit and shop.

Diversity of goods

With the advantage of being located in the center of Phu Giao district, Phuoc Vinh market has a higher purchasing power than other rural markets in the area, especially during Tet. Currently, Phuoc Vinh market has 57 small traders mainly dealing in ready-made clothes, cosmetics, shoes, fabrics and groceries...

At the end of the year, rural markets diversify goods to serve people’s demand for shopping on rise. In picture: Customers visit and shop at Lac An market in North Tan Uyen district’s Lac An commune

Le Thi Bay, a small trader in terms of footwear said: "Over the past two years, the market was quieter, with purchasing power decreasing significantly, due to the impact of the pandemic and the economic situation facing difficulties. This year, workers have left from work early, so most small traders in the market have stockpliled goods moderately. The price of footwear products for the Tet market is not high compared to normal days. Hopefully, from now until Tet, their purchasing power will be better."

The atmosphere at the markets of North Tan Uyen district in the early days of 2023 is also lively. At Tan Thanh market in Tan Thanh town, stalls are arranged quite neatly, with aisles being airy and spacious. Nguyen Thi True, the owner of a grocery store said: “As a local market, the pace of trade at the market takes place steadily. On Tet and great holidays, they get more crowded. This year's Tet items are offered early by suppliers. The store has also stockpiled a certain amount of goods to serve people. From now until Tet, if the number of customers is larger, we will continue taking more goods". Nguyen Van Hoang, a clothing trader at Dat Cuoc market in Dat Cuoc commune shared: "The market is close to the industrial park, so customers are mostly workers. I also only stockpile some new products with average prices suitable to consumers’financial capacity”.

Coming to Lac An market in Lac An commune, we saw the image of old people carrying plastic baskets in their hands and visiting stalls to buy vegetables and meat. Next was the images of an old man sitting in a corner of the market selling bamboo and rattan baskets, mothers with small children walking around the stalls... The voices of buyers and sellers rumbled throughout the market. The image of the countryside market really made heart flutters.

Stable prices

At the end of the year, small traders at the markets prepare a variety of items with stable prices without hoarding goods or raising their prices. The local authorities also focus on stockpiling goods, coordinating with the market management boards to regularly inspect and supervise the quality of goods, security and order so that people can shop with peace of mind.

Dinh Thi Kim Dung, the owner of a grocery store at Lac An market said: “I have traded at this market for more than 10 years. Over the past 2 years, the market was quiet. Regardless of the context, the store always ensures goods with stable prices and there is no situation of raising goods’prices during Tet.

Nguyen Ngoc Thu, Deputy Head of Phu Giao district’s Economic Division said that the district now has 6 markets in operation. Essential goods stockpiled at these markets to serve the shopping needs of people in the area include foodstuff, processed and fresh food with a total value of about VND 11.4 billion. The groups of essential goods for Tet holiday such as jams, confectionery, alcohol, soft drinks, etc., always ensure stable prices.

This year, goods at markets are relatively plentiful and diverse. However, most small traders plan to stockpile goods in moderation to adapt to the current situation. In addition, local authorities also focus on stockpiling goods, stabilizing the market and checking the quality of goods to ensure that people enjoy Tet in peace.
