The emulation movement of “Good farmer in production-business” has been promoted among farmers in Ben Cat town. Many economic models with high economic efficiency have been developed, helping stabilize the lives of locals.
Effective models
Phu An girdle cake is one of specific products of the Phu An traditional craft village in Ben Cat town. Nguyen Thanh Rang and some farmers in the commune have made efforts in developing this traditional craft. Thanks to the support of the communal Farmers’ Association, they bravely set up Phu An girdle cake cooperative in 2012, helping members share mutual experience, ensuring the quality of products, seeking a stable consumption market…
Since being established, the cooperative has well realized its purposes, thereby improving the quality of products with the selling price increasing to VND40,000-VND60,000 per kg. All have contributed to helping members of the cooperative get a more stable life. The girdle cake-making facility of Nguyen Than Rang now generates jobs for 20 laborers with the monthly income of VND5million-VND6million per person.
The model of breeding quails in Tan Dinh ward has also brought hi-economic efficiency to farmers. It was initiated by Nguyen Van Thanh, member of the ward’s Farmers’ Association in 2002. Till now, the quails breeding group of the ward has worked very effectively, helping members reach a more stable life.
Many other models on breeding cows in Hoa Loi, Thoi Hoa wards and Phu An commune; growing apricot blossoms in An Tay commune, safe vegetables in My Phuoc ward…have also brought farmers a stable income. Noticeably, the town’s Farmers and its branches have promoted the local advantageous models towards hi-tech and urban agriculture.
Upholding effectiveness of the emulation movement
The town’s Farmers’ Association over the past time gave support in terms of investment capital, nurslings, breeding animals, agricultural materials…for farmers. Particularly, the association between 2012-2017 disbursed VND103billion in loan from the local Support Fund for Farmers and branch of the Bank for Social Policies…, helping more than 1,600 farmers escape poverty. The local well-off farmers also offered help of more than VND4billion to poor ones. In addition, there were nearly 26,000 members winning the title of “good farmer in production-business” at all levels or 84.5% of total and up 24.5% compared to the set plan.
According to Nguyen Van De, Chairman of the town’s Farmers’ Association, along with effective production models, the local farmers have actively upheld their role in new rural construction. Between 2012 and 2017, they contributed more than 7,300 working days, VND4.8billion to making 221 km of rural roads; upgraded 159 km of canals; carried out a model of collecting waste…
Nguyen Hoang Thong, Permanent Vice-Secretary of the town’s Party Committee said that the town’s Farmers’ Association needs to continue strongly improving its operational way, diversifying forms to gather farmers. Along with this, the association needs to further promote the emulation movement of “good farmer in production-business”; set up tentative models on sci-tech application in cultivation and animal husbandry; foster cooperative groups, cooperatives, helping farmers step by step integrate into the global economy.
