Greenified consumption to protect the environment

In the context of increasingly unpredictable climate change, environmental protection has become an urgent issue. Greenified consumption is considered one of the proning solutions for environment protection.

Inevitable trend

Greenified consumption is understood as part of sustainable consumption, which is the purchase and use of environmentally friendly products that do not harm human health and do not threaten the natural ecosystem. Currently, in Vietnam, greenified consumption is becoming an essential need for consumers. People prioritize using clean food, without preservatives, produced according to VietGAP standards; minimizing the use of nylon bags and plastic.

In the province, there are increasingly more food stores, agricultural products, fresh fruits, and clean pork. In these stores, the products have higher prices than regular stores but are still preferred by consumers because the products have clear origins, are inspected and monitored for quality by functional agencies. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, the owner of a clean pork store at Viet Sing market (An Phu ward, Thuan An city), said that the food in her store has a clear origin, is certified with sufficient conditions for food safety, so customers feel very reassured when coming here to shop.

Notably, non-cash payment also facilitates greenified consumption activities. Specifically, switching to this form of payment contributes to minimizing negative impacts on the environment and promoting sustainable lifestyles. With this method, just a touch, a customer can complete a transaction when using modern payment methods such as ATM cards, QR codes etc. for shopping activities at supermarkets, shopping centers, stores, agencies etc. nowadays.

Many users said that payment with this modern form is very convenient, especially in cases where a large amount of money needs to be used. Just use a smartphone to log into the bank's payment app and select the QR code scanning function, move the phone camera to the place containing the QR code to be scanned, enter the amount to be paid, then enter the password or OTP code to complete the payment of the shopping expenses.

Enterprises are encouraged with greenified techs

As consumers increasingly care about greenified products (products made from environmentally friendly materials), localities, businesses, and establishments in the province must adjust their production processes and business operations to meet market demands. This encourages businesses and establishments to invest in clean technology, use environmentally friendly materials, and ensure labor safety.

Mr. Tran Van Xop, a member of Minh Hoa Phat Agricultural - Service - Trade Cooperative (Minh Hoa commune, Dau Tieng district), said that the cooperative actively responds to the environmentally friendly production and consumption movement. Currently, the cooperative produces greenified-skinned pomelos according to VietGAP standards, achieving a 3-star OCOP quality; using cartons for packaging instead of nylon bags.

In order to meet the current trend of greenified consumption, many supermarkets, shopping centers, convenience stores, food and beverage stores in the province have come up with business ideas to promote environmentally friendly consumption activities, such as: Switching to using environmentally friendly packaging products instead of plastic cups, nylon bags; using bamboo straws, paper straws instead of plastic straws; selling recycled products that are environmentally friendly.

Mrs. Nguyen Hong Cam, Head of Operations at Aeon Mall Binh Duong Canary Shopping Center (Thuan An City), said that every year the center collaborates with departments, agencies, organizations, and unions to organize environmental protection campaigns to raise awareness among center staff and customers. Most food and beverage businesses in the center use paper cups and food containers. Many food and beverage establishments in the center also encourage customers to bring glass bottles to the shop to buy drinks at a discounted price; customers who bring used plastic bottles or batteries can exchange them for gifts.

At the Bach Hoa Xanh stores in the province, there are propaganda posters with the slogan "Limit nylon bags with Bach Hoa Xanh to protect the environment". According to the representative of the Bach Hoa Xanh store in Uyen Hung ward, Tan Uyen city, the store will organize a propaganda program to promote the reduction of the use of non-biodegradable nylon bags and single-use plastic products at the store system.

According to environmental experts, greenified consumption brings many benefits. However, completely replacing conventional products with greenified products requires many factors, not only the awareness of the people but also the support from various levels, sectors, businesses, and communities. To spread the greenified consumption trend, relevant departments, localities, and units need to intensify the promotion of the greenified growth campaign through various specific actions; encourage the transition to sustainable consumption methods to preserve and improve environmental quality.
