Over the past years, Investment and Industrial Development Corporation (Becamex IDC) made a lot of contributions to Binh Duong’s socio-economic development in general and the local urban development in particular. Becamex IDC’s products and services have contributed to developing Binh Duong into a smart city in the future.
Urban infrastructure development
Nguyen Van Hung, CEO of Becemex IDC said that under the support of authorities at all levels, Becamex IDC and its member units have so far owned perfectly-built infrastructure facilities, in which industrial infrastructure was built under the plan towards environmental improvement. This has facilitated the local investment attraction and better met investors’ demand. Through its projects, Becamex IDC has contributed to creating an attractive investment climate for domestic and foreign investors.

All industrial parks invested by Becamex IDC and its member units are model ones with perfect infrastructure facilities towards environmental protection. Becamex IDC also continues to perfect urban industrial parks, namely Thoi Hoa, My Phuoc…, aiming to create “clean” land fund with a modern and synchronous infrastructure system at investors’ demand. This will contribute to helping Binh Duong soon realize a target on industrialization and modernization, increasing the local State budget revenue.
In terms of traffic infrastructure, Becamex IDC last year continued working out DT746 and DT747 streets through Tan Uyen town in order to connect Tan Uyen town, North Tan Uyen district and Binh Duong new city. When being completed and put into use, the Tan Van-My Phuoc expressway also contributed to solving traffic congestion on national highway 13 and DT747 street. In addition, Becamex IDC constructed the 10-lane My Phuoc-Bau Bang street of 11km; continued making urban rejuvenation for streets in TDM city connecting with provincial Integrated Administration Center, upgrading Binh Duong Avenue…to assure the regional connection between HCM city, southeastern and central Highlands localities. Especially, Becamex IDC put provincial Integrated Administration Center into operate in 2014. Construction of many other key works under the 1,000-hectrare project of the center of Binh Duong new city was fulfilled basically.
With a goal of building up a city of technology-education and training, Becamex IDC and other investors have to date built and put many projects like Eastern International University, Ngo Thoi Nhiem school, Nguyen Khuyen school together with a community sports complex…into operation. Becamex IDC also implemented a social housing project in the 2011-2015 period with 64,000 apartments of 200 hectares in total, supplying accommodations for 164,000 low-income earners. Possibly speaking, the project is not only a strategic goal, but also a major task of the province during the local socio-economic development process.
Towards a smart city
Mr.Hung emphasized that along with boosting marketing for foreign investment attraction, Becamex IDC has played a key role in connecting Binh Duong with administration units at the same level abroad. Leaders of Becamex IDC will also continue advising provincial leaders on concrete action programs to implement contents signed with partners.
To carry out the “Smart city” project and the Triple Helix model with university-industry and government relations, since 2014, provincial People’s Committee and Becamex IDC have had steps to get assess to Holland’s Eindhoven city and Brainport Corporation in making investment marketing as well as setting foundations for international cooperation under provincial leaders’ orientation of international cooperation diversification. This has aimed to step by step develop Binh Duong into a smart city in the future, which is based on Eindhoven and Brainport Corporation’s history and development experience.
Becamex IDC has also put forward some development proposals and plans on the Triple Helix model with a modern and sustainable industrial development foundation towards a smart city in the future. The province also needs to seek partners; work with technological companies to organize annual “Smart city” contests, helping Binh Duong map out a detailed plan for the project. All will help Binh Duong uphold its internal force to be able to independently carry out the project in the future.
Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of provincial People’s Committee said that Becamex IDC’s products and services have created great hallmarks to Binh Duong’s socio-economic development process, contributing to developing the locality into a centrally-controlled city by 2020. He also spoke highly of Becamex IDC’s cooperation programs abroad as well as its social housing projects in the province, contributing to well realizing the local social welfare while emphasizing the important role of leaders of Becamex IDC in putting forward proposals for Binh Duong towards a smart city in the coming time.
