Dau Tieng district concentrated on hi-tech agricultural production over the past years. But, the local government and people need to make efforts in this field for better development.
Restructuring of agriculture
Over the past years, Dau Tieng district actively implemented a plan on restructuring of agriculture towards sustainable development with high competitiveness. The plan has been carried out since 2017 via agricultural promotion projects, agricultural schemes; fostered hi-tech models on cultivation and animal husbandry in association with boosting the shift of agricultural structure. The district’s area for rubber growing is about 50,000 hectares, down 1.2% compared to the first period of the tenure while total area for growing fruit trees is around 650 hectares, up 100% compared to the first period of the tenure. Farmers in Dau Tieng district have effectively developed hi-tech agricultural models
The district has also developed a specialized area on growing fruit trees in association with ecotourism development in Thanh Tuyen commune; carried out an intensive farming model for citrus fruit trees under VietGAP standards and made coherence from production to consumption in Minh Hoa and Minh Thanh communes. In addition, the district has focused on encouraging individuals, businesses to get involved in hi-tech and urban agricultural models. The whole district is now home to hundreds of hectares of hi-tech agricultural production. Noticeably, Dau Tieng One-Member Rubber Co.Ltd. has formed a joint-venture with U&I Agricultural Joint Stock Company to carry out a banana growing project of 117 hectares in Thanh An commune and continue making a project on growing 2,300 hectares of citrus fruit trees with hi-tech application. The productivity of citrus fruit trees in the district has reached 45 tons-60 tons per hectare with VND800million in profit per hectare per year. Nearly 10 hectares of mangosteen in Thanh Tuyen commune were granted the VietGap certification. The district has also built up Dau Tieng district’s mangosteen collective trademark and aimed at developing the district’s citrus fruit tree trademark.
Along with promoting citrus fruit trees, the district has aimed at concentrated animal husbandry. The whole district is now home to 218 poultry and cattle farmsteads, including 149 with hi-tech application. The quality of the sector’s products has been improved at the market’s increasing demand. So far, the district’s agricultural production value has gained more than VND4.24trillion or 23.73% of the local economic structure.
Further removing obstacles
Nguyen Phuong Linh, Chairman of Dau Tieng district’s People’s Committee said that in the 2020-2025 tenure, the district will further realize the local program on restructuring of agriculture towards hi-tech models in association with processing and environmental protection. Especially, the district has attached special importance to processing industry by calling on investors to get in-depth exploitation into processing in order to create end-products. The district will also increase market promotion, ensuring consumption market for products of the local farmers and businesses. Moreover, the district will continue enhancing sci-tech application into agricultural production via industrial-agricultural promotion and sci-tech transfer programs. The district will soon set up its business association branch to create coherence among businesses for better development.
With advantages in terms of weather and soil, the district’s agriculture in general and hi-tech agriculture in particular will reach stronger breakthroughs in the coming time if the local shortcomings on mechanism, capital and market are removed…
