Hi-tech agriculture and dream of trademark

Regarding Binh Duong, many people think that this is a locality attaching to industrial development but agriculture in here is in poor development. However, the province has launched a program of urban agricultural and hi-tech agricultural development in attachment to processing industry with full of prospects. In the future, there will be agricultural products branded “made in Binh Duong”.

According to the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development director Le Van Rum, urban agricultural and hi-tech agricultural development in the province have reached an encouraging result. of these amount, total area of vegetables and ornamental trees has reached over 192ha, winning 64.23% from the goal of structure transfer program for the 2011-2015 period. the total area of hi-tech orchards is at 245.8ha with fruits such as green skin grapefruit, orange and mandarin with an average capacity of 33tons/ha/year. in addition, the locality has set up livestock breeding areas with hi-tech facilities at northern districts.

The highlighted character of local hi-tech agriculture lies in planning and building 3 hi-tech agricultural areas with the total area of 972.2ha at An Thai, Hieu Liem, Tan Hiep and Phuoc Sang communes. Of these, An Thai hi-tech agriculture area has won initial successes with products appearing across big supermarkets such as Big C, Metro, Saigon Coop… foreign market of Japan.

As of the end of 2011, An Thai hi-tech agriculture area’s investor has developed over 80ha of vegetables, ornamental trees and herbal trees. accordingly, many models have given income sources higher than local other trees such as rubber, sugarcane… Notably, models of planting cucumber and chili have brought a turnover of VND600mil/ha/crop.

Aside from hi-tech agricultural products, a large-scaled project of hi-tech dairy cow farm has been set up at Phuoc Sang and Tan Hiep communes in Phu Giao district. According to Nguyen Thanh Trung, general director of Binh Duong Sugarcane JSC, the investment unit of the farm, said the project was ratified in June, 2011. At present, the company in cooperation with functional units has set up a detailed planning project with the scale of 471.86ha. The project’s demo farm will be put operation in June 2012 and play role of training and practicing techniques for workers.

The company will sign contract with a breeding cow import unit in early the third quarter of this year. Trung added that the project will generate jobs for local laborers. 

Another hi-tech agriculture area is Tien Hung hi-tech chicken breeding area with the area of 89.95ha under construction at Hieu Liem commune of Tan Uyen district.

And dream of trademark

To excel projects of the mentioned structure transfer program, the local department of Agriculture and Rural Development has set out many measures of planning areas specializing urban agriculture and hi-tech agriculture areas, perfecting and renovating structures, facilitating businesses and individuals’ trade promotion and trademark building for local distinctive farm products.

Despite difficulties, the local businesses have expected agricultural products branded “made in Binh Duong” appearing across local and foreign markets.
