High expectation on economic efficiency from ornamental creatures

The Project on setting up the area for producing and supplying various ornamental creatures in the southern region of Binh Duong province for the 2018-2022 period is very necessary so that urban agriculture of the region in general and the sector of ornamental creatures in particular are developed in the right direction and in line with the local plan…, especially at the requirements of socio-economic development, helping agricultural restructuring towards hi-tech and urban agricultural models in association with processing industry.

For the sector getting better development, provincial People’s Committee has issued the Decision No.1153/QD-UBND on approval of the Project on “Setting up the area for producing and supplying various ornamental creatures in the southern region of Binh Duong for the 2018-2022”. The objective of the project is to establish a specialized area on producing, supplying various ornamental creatures like orchid, apricot, ornament fish…for the southern economic region and export.

It also aims to create jobs, increase incomes for laborers, use all existing resources to diversify agricultural products, bring the beauty of urban development to the locality, contributing to dealing with people’s demand for entertainment. Particularly, the province will raise the total area for ornamental creature cultivation and business to 139 hectares, including 70 hectares for orchid, 69 hectares for apricot and other ornamental plants…The value of products on one hectare of urban and hi-tech agricultural production is around VND160million-VND180million per year. Whilst, the value of products from various ornamental plants is between VND1.1billion and VND1.3billion per hectare per year. The average income per capita of the local people getting involved in urban agricultural production is between VND70million and VND80million per year.

Sustainable production

The project is of great significance for the province to form up an effective, stable and sustainable sector in the province. It is implemented by provincial Sub-Department of Rural Development, units under provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DoARD), the People’s Committees of towns, cities in the southern region of the province, relevant associations and households specialized in producing, supplying various ornamental creatures in communes, wards and townships in Ben Cat, Tan Uyen, TDM and Thuan An cities during the 2020-2022 period.

Le Canh Dan, Deputy Head of provincial DoARD said that the province’s industrialization and urbanization process has made the shift of the local production structure, forming up new production sectors in line with the local real situation with reduction in production area and number of laborers. During the process, hi-tech and urban agricultural models have been formed up and fostered with advantages in terms of market, capital, sci-tech…

The province has seen hi-tech-urban agriculture as a development orientation for the local agricultural production. Hence, the Project on “Setting up the area for producing and supplying various ornamental creatures in the southern region of Binh Duong for the 2018-2022 period” is of great significance for the province in forming up an effective, stable and sustainable production zone.
