The local assessment Council for Planning and Development of rural trades held a meeting to hear about the Southern Institute of Planning and Development’s presentation on local rural trades till 2020.
According to the Institute, till the end of 2010 Binh Duong province had 32 craft villages with 46 trades. Of these, there are 9 traditional trades of carpenter, lacquer, sculpture, ceramics, bamboo article, wooden shoe, piggy bank, girdle cake.
These trades have 45,755 productive facilities with more than 103,000 laborers enjoying an average income of VND750,000-2,6mil per capita per month. The traditional craft villages’ turnover is over VND4tril with an export turnover of over US$72mil. The local traditional craft villages are mainly in the Southern localities of Thuan An, Di An, Thu Dau Mot, Tan Uyen and Ben Cat.
However, the institute said that the agricultural trades of manual girdle cake, bamboo article, piggy bank, toothpick would have risks of oblivion, owing to low income, high competition… Besides, some trades including carpenter, wooden shoe, sculpture, lacquer… will have chances for development if there are improvements of human resources, trade promotion and diversification of pattern.
