The province’s agricultural sector is aiming at developing urban and hi-tech agricultural production models in order to be in line with the next period. To effectively realize this orientation, the province has promulgated a lot of support policies for farmers.
Effective models
Nguyen Hoang Vinh, Chairman of provincial Farmers’ Association said that as of late September, provincial Farmers’ Associations at all levels mobilized more than VND15.9billion for the Support Fund for Farmers with 4,500 farming households provided with loans, bringing the fund so far to more than VND100million. More than 23,000 farming households also got loans from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies’ Binh Duong branch. Moreover, provincial Farmers’ Associations at all levels organized 475 training courses on techniques in cultivation and animal husbandry, 69 models on cultivation, 80 models on animal husbandry…, contributing to helping the local farming households rise up out of poverty and step by step get rich.

Till now, provincial Farmers’ Association has developed 90 effective collective economic models. The local farmers have also approached new technologies in cultivation and animal husbandry. Many models on growing green-skin pomelos, guavas in pots; breeding ornamental fish...have brought hi-economic efficiency to the local farmers. Over the past time, farmers across the country also visited and learnt about effective models in the province.
Many outstanding models from the local farmers were also highly appreciated by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association over the past time. To achieve this result, provincial Farmers’ Associations at all levels advised the local farmers on putting focus on some certain plants and animals in order to restrict spreading in investment when their capital is still modest.
Challenges
Provincial Farmers’ Association has implemented many projects for the local farming households. They comprise of the Project on “Improving officials, members’ capacity of applying information technology in the period of 2014-2016”; the Project on “Enhancing farmers’ capacity of ecotourism development in the period of 2014-2016; the Project on “Improving the operational effectiveness of the Support Fund for Farmers in the period of 2016-2020”…
Mr.Vinh added that provincial Farmers’ Association has also suggested the central agencies to reduce lending interest rates to 0.5% from 0.7%, helping the local farmers easily get access to preferential loans to buy machines, equipment for agricultural production. The association’s concern at present is that domestic agricultural products will face tougher competitiveness when the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP) takes effect.
The province is aiming at building up modern agriculture, increasing the added value of the local agricultural products and relevant services. For that reason, the birth of the projects has step by step helped the local farmers change their thought in production and business. This will not only assist them to become good farmers, but also raise their initiative in competitiveness when the global wave of competitiveness is taking place very quickly in all aspects.
