May 13, Mr. Mai Hung Dung, member of the Standing Committee of Binh Duong provincial Party Committee, Standing Deputy Chairman of the provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting of the Steering Committee for construction and urban development of Thu Dau Mot in the 2016-2020 period and the subsequent years (referred to as the Steering Committee). Also attending the meeting was Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, Standing Member of the provincial Party Committee, Secretary of Thu Dau Mot city Party Committee.

Implementing Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU dated November 14, 2016 of the provincial Party Committee on continuing to build and develop Thu Dau Mot urban area in the 2016-2020 period and the following years, the Steering Committee has focused on developing Thu Dau Mot urban areas by investing in construction and development of Thu Dau Mot urban center in the direction of civilization and modernity and improving the quality of people's lives. Thu Dau Mot city was recognized as a grade I city at the end of 2017 to become one of 18 cities of grade I in the nation.
In the 2016-2020 period, the total budget expenditure for investment in capital construction for the city was more than VND 5,272 billion, of which the focus was on key traffic works, connections for urban development in the Western region and urban areas of Northwest of the city, connecting the existing urban area with Binh Duong New city. Specifically, the provincial People's Committee has allocated provincial budget capital for 61 projects with a total capital of over VND 3,048 billion VND; and so far, 29 roads have been completed and put into use.
The development of urban green space, increasing public space to serve the community is also drastically implemented by the city. Up to now, the city has taken advantage of the public land fund to invest in the construction of 104 parks, gardens and urban green areas, meeting the people's needs for entertainment, exercise and sports.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dong said, implementing Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee, in 2016-2020, Thu Dau Mot city has focused on two basic tasks of construction investment and urban development to achieve positive results. In the next phase, a new draft Resolution to replace Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU of the provincial Party Committee developed by Thu Dau Mot city is expected to have three basic task groups of urban development, building a smart city and a cultural and civilized urban lifestyle.
Concluding the meeting, Mr. Mai Hung Dung asked Thu Dau Mot city to complete the report on the results of the implementation of Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU of the provincial Party Committee, in which it is necessary to evaluate the aspects that can be done and has not been done, the advantages as well as drawbacks in the implementation process; each task group needs solutions and a list of specific works. The city needs to focus on investing in key breakthroughs to create accents and change the urban appearance; it should invest in synchronous infrastructure with regional connectivity on the basis of renovating existing urban areas, effectively developing and exploiting public land resources into places of entertainment for people.
He also required investment in information technology infrastructure with shared databases and application software in fields that are synchronous with the development orientation of Binh Duong Smart city.
