Rubber and fruit trees have so far been staple trees in Binh Duong. Till the end of 2012, the total area of rubber plantation in the province has reached more than 142,000ha, of 68,218ha of which have been exploited with the capacity of 1.4 tons per ha.
Meanwhile, the local total area of orchard has won 1,034ha, 301 ha of which are for durian plantation, 869ha for mangosteen, 140ha for jack-fruit, 11.2ha for banana, 63.5ha for mango, 56.6ha for rambutan, 28 for longan and 353ha for other fruit trees.
Besides, animal husbandry has been also an advantage of the province with more than 450,000 pigs and 3,600,000 poultries raised at 72 chicken farmsteads and 40 pig farms. These farms have been equipped with auto and semi-auto technology facilities.
These models have brought high incomes for farmers, less influencing on environment and being expanded by many communes. Nguyen Thanh Lam, chairman of Hieu Liem commune People’s Committee, said Hieu Liem’s agricultural production advantage is the farmstead economy with staple fruit trees such as grapefruit, citrus trees, chicken and pig breeding on a large scale. The farmstead economy is an impetus for the commune to develop further in the future.
In the coming time, Hieu Liem will step up improving capacity and quality of orchards by expanding production models and promoting output for agricultural products and transferring technical science for farmers.
Hieu Liem is now home to 30 farms, of which orchards bring an income of VND350-400mil per ha per year. Pham Van Hoang, chairman of Bach Dang commune People’s Committee in Tan Uyen district said that the communal per capita income has reached VND21.4mil per year. In the coming time, local people’s income will be improved and we specify that grapefruit will be a key fruit tree in the locality. In addition, we also focus on developing high value models of safe vegetable production.
To reach effective economic models at new rural communes, role of farmers is very important. Farmers should improve their knowledge on production. Nguyen Van Long, the rubber grower at Lai Uyen commune of Ben Cat district, said farmers always approach new knowledge to develop production models. This shows that staple economic models will improve income for farmers, contributing to development of new rural communes and farmers.
